I remember the first time I heard Jim Nabor sing.. on Gomer Pyle show. I thought it was someone else singing the song! I was shocked that such a strong voice came from that goofy guy lol

Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone. I am singing to you Blu and that is my Jim Reeves impression. Sounds like you are big on C&W.

Oh, you crazy kids with your new-fangeled records. All we had was cylinders back when I was growing up, we couldn't afford one of those new record players. Yessir, we cranked up the Edison Morninglory Victrola and played them wax cylinders. They don't make music like that anymore.

Hey to all! Too funny Wade!
While growing up I heard music all the time.. My mother would always sing...
and boy could she sing too!!! Anything from Madame Butterfly (she could hit
an octave obove C and raise the hair on your arms and back of your neck)
to Eddie Arnold and triple-tongue yodeling.
At Christmas time she could make you weep listening to her sing some of
those good old songs!
Until recently...I had a stack of old 45's. Elvis Prseley (that was
mentioned for your benefit Wade), the Beatles, and who sang that tune,
"I Started a Joke"? and bunches of others. Shoulda kept them puppies!
Don't know what happened to them actually. Oh well...yes those were the
gold old days...oh yeah...my mom had 78's too! I'll have to ask her if
still has them.

phucq - I am with you, not only the cylinders but the record platters, that were anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick and the Edison phonograph. Finally moved up to the 78 rpm. Ink Spots, Eddie Duchin, Big Bands, etc. I was so thrilled when I was given the Gershwin Rapsody in Blue, box set on 78. 10 records on both sides. Now it fits on a cd, with An American in Paris. Thanks for the memories.
