My father-in-law had and now my wife has a 45 collection in mint condition. Since I moved from the DC area last year I have yet to set up the turntable. Believe it or not there is Hank Williams singles in this collection purchased when they were big hits. I still have a few Elvis 45s and 33s with covers that are quite scratchy, have not been played in years, but no way will I give them up. This includes the Love Me Tender 45 cover which was the first of the 45 Elvis covers. I lost my autograph picture signed for me by Fats Domino when I met him at the ripe old age of 12. I was also a member of the RCA Record Club. What nice memories.

Herefrom, on that Rapsody in Blue set, did you have the Paul Whiteman recordings like I did? These fifty year old kids on here don't know what the heck we're talking about, they only know this new rock n' roll music... it all sounds like noise to me. I'm just going to put on Rudy Valley and go to bed.

phucq - You know, I do not remember for sure what artist performed the Rhapsody in Blue, I believe it was Artie Shaw on my set.
I have to do this. How many of you have ever heard of Spike Jones and his City Slickers? Infantile minds want to know.

I could never hear the beautiful voice of Spike Jones on "C*cktails for Two", because of all those damn washboards and aahooooooooooogah horns, but I've heard he was a great opera singer.

Yes, and his wife Helen Graco had a wonderful voice. Remember Doodles Weaver and his race monologs? I just dug out my record collection, and realised that if I played non stop all that I had, I don't think I would get through them in my remaining years. No, I am thinking what a waste of money in my lifetime.

Herefrom, I hope you realize I was joking about Spike's opera singing, even though I don't put up pictures of those little characters with the signs.

You know that, and I know that, but if we are coy, about it, there may be people out there who are into opera, will buy some of his recordings to think they are getting opera but will get a new thrill in life. Remember Palyatchee by Helen?. I never laugh so hard, everytime I play it, I am trying to memorize it.
Another song comes to mind. Did you ever hear "Transfusion" by "Nervous Norvis", or "I put a spell on you" by "Screaming Jay Hawkins"

I also listened to Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves. My Mom and step-Dad would play Moon/42 at the beer joints and as a kid I would run around with the other kids and play. A LOT of those old songs are a part of me. My Mom also had "West Side Story" album and my Dad LOVED Connie Francis. Had older sisters and brother that listed to all kinds of music so I have a wide variety of interest in music. Not much I do not like.
