ok so i ran into my ex hubbys wife at the mall, she had my baby girl with her (we have joint custody) and my baby girl was running a really bad fever.... so i told her to take her to the dr... it worried me because over the summer she got strep and my ex took her camping and it got worse and when i got them back i took her to the dr within the hour and the dr said it was really bad, 2 more days untreated could of been fatal! (about to go to court over that one) so i told his wife to take her. i don't care how much it costs i'll pay for it. i just got a call saying "heads up, he's really mad that i took her to the dr and he might be calling you all pissy"
seirously?!?!?! i hope he does call! i can't believe he would jepordize her health to save a few bucks, expecially when his wife went out and spent almost 200 bucks last week getting her nipples and clit peirced! and was leasure shopping today! ( i ran into her at the mall )

all I can say is document document document every time something like this happens write it down date it,time it word for word. keep it all in a journal that way when you do go to court your not just pulling shit out of thin air. also if they are sick everytime they come home suck it up take them yourself and spend the dough document and keep reciepts that way you can show a pattern of their sickness revolving around when they see the other parent. It may take a while and alot of money but your childs welfare is worth it . I let my a**hole ex sign away rights over two years ago with the agreement he didn't have to pay support anymore and it's worth losing a million dollars a month to know my kids are okay. Keep your chin up everything will work out in the end

I know this makes no sense but men will very rarely go to the doctors for theirselves,so to them a child has to be in mortal danger for them to think they need to see a doctor..

I dated a girl whos son sufferd from seizures and when he was with his father the boy didnt get his medicine one bad seizure he could died.
The courts did nothing about it.

In this situation my child would have left with me and went to the Dr. if I felt immediate attention was needed. Especially, if there was a history of medical treatment being neglected.
I would never make a good ex wife...

First I have to ask does the child have medical insurance? It should not be that expensive for a child to go for a check up just the copay amount plus meds. If not get some, no one should be without medical coverage.
Even if they are married does she have a job to pay her expenses? This is one of the reasons why I would never date a man with children. Their children are not my responisability  thats just me.
With that being said as someone mention make sure you document everything and have a witnesses to verify. There is always 2 sides to a story. In most Domestic Relation courts the judge will say its your word against his. If such incident happens again and you are willing to risk the outcome(if any) contact child protective services (CPS) in your area and they will investigate. I have seen many cases where when the family comes into to court and the other plays the judge and they are quick to down play and say that the next person is jealous of his/her partner and they have moved on and they always try to cause trouble.

 The fact that the wife had the baby at the mall shopping while she had a fever would have been enough for me to take her with me right then!

That would have been a big no no. While the children are in the custody of the Father as they were in this case (even though they were with the step mom) the mom has no business taking them away. The father could have called the police and the mother would have had to turn the kids over to them. Then, CPS probably would have stepped in. In this case she did the right thing by telling the step mom to take the kid to the doctor.
You have to understand.....the courts feel that fathers can take care of children just as well as mothers can. And they can! Do as some of the posters have said and document everything. But keep in mind the father will also have the chance to come up with an excuse. You also have to understand that a lot of what you say might fall on deaf ears. So many mothers make up stories and make things look worse than they are.....that when there is a real serious case often times it's too late because no one wanted to believe the parent.

First: I agree that the child should go to the Dr.'s and I make over 60% of my children's Dr.s appointment and they are only with me 50% of the week (same thing, joint custody( (btw - I care the health care insurance and pay 80% pluse of out of pocket).
Off topic, although I am going to vent: This document, document, document he said she said didn't do this b*tching BS is not what the courts want to hear or will do anything about. I am so sick of my ex casting unsupstantiated views and BS record of madeup events to court, which she never wins on anything or is punished for abuse of process. Just a suggestion, same as I told the Magistrate last BS time she vented to the courts, if she files the motion, she needs to substaintiate her claim with evidence and data that will support her qualifiable view with the quantifiable proof - or throw her a** in jail for abuse of process.
 - thx, I feel better now. This is not a gender thing, anyone that pulls this level of BS should be publically tied and beaten.

I would never have waited for him or her to do it. I am blessed I didn't have to share custody. Also what the hell does what she pierces or spends matter to this issue. Maybe she is using her money. I wouldn't even want to know my ex's wife had stuff like that pierced. ewww
Get insurance for you kid it doesn't cost much to bring them in. Document and date every incident like this and keep receipts. When you go to court don't make mention about how he spends his money. That will make you look jealous. You don't want to go in cutting them down. You want to stick to the issue of the care of your child. simple!

If he has the child, and you try to take that child away. It had damn well better be considered an emergency. Something that any prudent person would consider an emergency. And have a statement from the Dr. that immediate intervention was necessary, to protect the child from harm. And that the other parent was ignoring the situation. In other words, you need to be able to prove, without a reasonable doubt that the other parent was being negligent. Every sniffle and fever is NOT an emergency. You can be charged with kidnapping, and various other crimes, and end up in jail. Who will look after the child then?

Yup, I agree. Custody battle or not...
Fishinguy, I also think you make a very valid point. Any person that uses the child as a weapon is a divorce/break up, has bigger issues than I was getting into.
I am just referring to the basic instinct as a parent. If the facts are as stated, my child would have left with me...ex and new wife are more than welcome to join us for medical treatment.

You can feel a child and know that they have a fever, low or high.

sounds like the child is the pawn here... couldn't you have called childrens aid or the police so there would be a report or maybe they would get the child help?
The health and welfare should always be the first prioity, nice that she takes your daughter with her BUT, neglecting her health!
