To Debate or Not to Debate would you date? That is the question! |

I started this as a blog and decided to post it for fun.
I am from an Irish family and they love to fight.
Not in a mean way.
As a girl I use to box with my uncles and debate with my grandfather all in fun.
Laughter is a must in my family. So of course even in debate that is passionate I tend to be one that makes others at least smile.
I tend to prefer smart witty older men because they are fun to debate with. I am Irish, passionate about my belief's and have a touch of Blarney on my side!
I think a healthy debate gets your heart pumping and if with a man well
So my Question is are you willing to date a person who LIKES to debate? or would that turn you off.
Everyone have fun with this and be ready for a healthy debate....ding ding ding...round 1
Clarification: Not arguments....I am talking heated but healthy debate.

To debate. It's fun, it gives you insight and you can see what people are passionate about. When it turns into opinions being pushed upon another, then it is not my cup of tea.
I'm a coffee drinker anyway.

ya it is not cool to push it on the other person.
We use to have to play a game where we defended a person of a crime...and proscuted them.
So another words we had to argue both sides and who ever did it best ...another words convinced the others of both positions won.
I still play it with my sons and it is fun.

My last name is an Irish name. But the fighting that went in my family was never in fun. What I don't miss is the yelling and screaming that was like having All Star Wrestling Live in the family home!I like the peace and quiet better.

Debate yes , argue no. there is a difference. my first ex was so competitive as was the rest of her family that there always had to be a "winner" no matter what you were doing. To be able to debate with someone is a key to deciding if the person you are debating is a good match i would think. You get to see how that person feels about certain topics and ideas.
With that said, do you start debating the touchy subjects like abortion, death penalty right off the bat or do you put those on the back burner??

Nothing like pitting mind against mind and then switching sides in the middle of it all no matter if its mental or physical

I love a good discussion with someone who is willing to listen and consider. It is no fun listening to someone who is unwilling to bend or entertain other perspectives.

Klassy I sort of agree...
here is where I differ...I don't want someone that will change their belief or opinion too easily. I want someone that is passionate about what they feel but will entertain my thoughts etc as well.
You make a good point.

When we all get together.. watch out!
As far as doing it on a date? Not too sure on that one.. would have to know her pretty good first or you can miss something and end up argueing for real

Discussion/Debate is interesting, the challenge is when you have to debate pro when your con on the subject,or vice versa, never lost a debate. I would imagine two successful debaters would have very little if any reason to argue.
Date a person who likes to debate? Sure! Argue for the sake of argument NO!

I'm legally not allowed to enter into debates as part of my probation. Last time I tried to get into a battle of wits, I realized my adversary was unarmed. Needless to say, I put a pretty good intellectual a$$ kicking on her, and was sentenced to 5 years probation.
With good behavior, I should be eligible to debate again in about 3 months....But who am I kidding? I don't know how to behave.
