Last fall the U.S. voted for "Change". It is now about six months since the election and I'm wondering how it has directly affected people's lives so far. Are things better or worse today?

Fair here. I am being nickeled and dimed to death it seems.

My wind insurance went up to about 1800 dollars this year from 550 dollars last year. And because my house is older then 5 years, I have to higher an independent company to re-evaluate/re-assess my property to see how much I will be covered and paid.

I got a 3.4% raise at work, but like all people, was only given 2%. I was reminded with a big fat smile that I was lucky to be working. I told them the President is lucky too that I am working, I am paying those higher taxes.

Gas and food prices change too, we all know that. There are somethings I just don't need.

The happy news is I was planning on simplifying my life anyway as I got older, so I have been able to stop some activities in my life. You know that require annual memberships, and fees, and plane fares. Thats okay too.

And I have been given the splended opportunity to sign on for extra time at work, which gives me some feeling of relief, but they cancel me because its overtime.

The Change has opened my eyes, and has really given alot of people who don't know each other something in common to talk about. A Plus?

Other than the extra 22.oo in my paycheck, I don't see much change except in the season and of course changing my underware! LOL Some good changes in our county, lower taxes, had to work on the house insurance company, they tried to add some crap at an exhorbant price but I said "I don't think so" and got it back down. Housing market still looks real bad, lots of empty houses around me, makes for a quiet neighborhood. My company did some downsizing but I do the work of three so they passed me by.

It seems the only noticable change is that he changed his mind about getting new people in his administration. Although this administration inherited a financial crises from the previous one , the stock markets have continued their journey southward which to me indicates a vote of no confidence. "Change We Need" - True, but not for the worse. I predict a one term presidency for this "non-muslim" president who didn't have a middle name during the campaign but was sworn in as Barak Husain Obama. Very Interesting !!!!
Oh yes, it seems that he isn't able to walk on water either.

Dear President Obama,

Thank you for helping my neighbors with their mortgage payments. You know, the ones down the street who, in the good times, refinanced their house several times and bought SUV's, ATV's, RV"s, a pool, a big screen TV, two Wave Runners and a Harley. I was wondering, since I am paying my mortgage and theirs, could you arrange for me to borrow the Harley now and then?

P.S. They also need help with their credit cards; when do you want me to start making those payments?

P.P.S. I almost forgot - they didn't file their income tax return this year. Should I go ahead and file for them or will you be appointing them to cabinet posts?

I think A LOT of people that voted for "change" without knowing WHAT KIND of "change" are going to find out that instead of just listening to the sound bites from liberal media to based how they vote, they need to listen to all media forms AND do their homework on the candidates and issues.

Quote from davenlargo:

I just can't imagine what he'll accomplish when he has MORE time.

1. The American people elect a president with a total of 142 days
experience as a US Senator from the most politically-corrupt state in
America whose governor is ousted from office. The President's first
official act is to order the closure of Gitmo and make sure terrorists
civil rights are not violated.

2. The U.S. Congress rushes to confirm an Attorney General, Eric
Holder, whose law firm we later find out represents seventeen Gitmo
Terrorists. (An honest mistake!)

3. The CIA Boss appointee, Leon Panetta, has absolutely no experience,
has a daughter Linda we find out, who is a true radical anti-American
activist and a supporter of all the Anti-American regimes in the
western hemisphere. (We’re told there were socio-economic factors involved!)

4. We got the most corrupt female in America as Secretary of State;
bought and paid for.

(You can put lipstick on a pig, but it will still have cankles!)

5. We got a Tax Cheat for Treasury Secretary who files his own
taxes. (He misspoke!)

6. A Commerce Secretary nominee who withdrew due to corruption
charges. (Another honest mistake???)

7. A Tax cheat nominee for Chief Performance Officer who withdrew under
charges. (Hmmm... another screw-up?)

8. A Labor Sec'y nominee who withdrew under charges of unethical
conduct. (Ok, maybe this person was just plain stupid)

9. A Sec'y HHS nominee who withdrew under charges of cheating on his
taxes. (I'm running out of excuses for these idiots!!)

10. Multiple appointments of former lobbyists after an absolute
campaign statement that no lobbyists would be appointed. (Dear God, I
need a drink!)

And that's just the first few weeks. . . but who's counting?
America is being run by the modern-day Three Stooges ~ Barrack, Nancy ,
and Hilary ~ and they are still trying to define stimulus..."it's called
spending"...

The congress passes the $800,000,000,000 (that's $800 billion) pork
loaded spending bill where the government gives you a smidgen of your
tax dollars ($13 per week) making you feel so good about yourself
[stimulated] that you want to run out to Wal-Mart and buy a new
Chinese-made HDTV and go home and watch Telemundo!

Yee-haw!!! Only in America , what a country... We are lost... Here's
the good news though... Obama took Air Force One to Denver to sign the
stimulus package, wasting as much as 10,000 gallons of fuel. Don't you
just love this guy?

In these times "I'll keep my God, my freedom, my gun and my money.
You can keep "THE CHANGE".

Now if you want a REAL scare, google the GIVE Act. Get ready for the draft guys.

"you can't blame previous administrations anymore. "

=========================================================
(sorry, I'm not familiar with the quote function here)

Actually, you never could.
You can blame Congress since the President only proposes the budget, it's the House that approves it AND they can bypass a presidential veto with enough votes.
When did the economy start to really take a nosedive and when did the Dems take over the House?
Don't be surprised if you're looking at the same time frame.

It's only worse now because both branches (Executive and Legislative) are on the same page.

You talk about Veto's. That is true how that works. The problem is Obama appoints Czars for everything. Congress doesn't have to approve them like other appoinments. He is appointing Czars in positions that alrady have appoinments. We already have a Energy Secretary, why do we an energy Czar? The answer is the Czar can do what he wants and HELL with congress. That hold true for all Obama's Czars. He has appointed 20+ Czars that do his bidding and congress can do nothing to stop them. People better read up on what is going on. What Obama is doing is setting up a Socialist/Marxist Government but he keeps making beautiful sounding speeches but then turns around and tells us what we can do and can't do because "HE" knows best. Never in the history of this country has one person DICTATED so much on the CITIZENS. I know I cannot change liberals minds...all I ask is that they read how DICTATORSHIPS start...you know...read history. There are plenty of dictatorships to read about...pick one...if I suggest any you will call me an Obama hater. If you go read about any dictatorship they all start the way Obama is doing it. HISTORY...HISTORY....HISTORY...check out some HISTORY....prove me wrong.

I agree with King....we need to get rid of the Democrat and Republican parties....they have for the most part becime one unit....What is needed is for the Deomcrats to start calling themselves what they are Liberal/Marxists and all the so called moderate Republicans can join them. We need Conservatives that use the Constitution the way it was written to get off thier butts and be proud to be Conservative. I am not affraid to say OBAMA is our first MARXIST president. Everything is his way or you may as well hit the highway. His BEGGEST LIE has been TRANSPARENCY. Not one thing he has done has had any transparency to it...it has all been DICTATED.

Only in our dreams. We do have to find a Reagan type to lead the Conservative party. There is probably less than 5% of the Democrats that are conservative...yes there are a few in the south. What is sad is only about 30% of the Republicans in Congress that are Conservative. What REALLY saddens me is that 90% of the everyday citizen lives his life as a conservative. They want lower taxes, less government, strong family values, etc. but they keep voting for these Liberal/Marxist people that want higher taxes and bigger government. With Obama they will learn how bad it is going to get. There have been some great B.S. politicians...but Obama is the best ever. He can out and out lie and people still love him. He is the weakest foriegn policy president ever...even worse than Jimmy Carter. Go back through recent history and find out what the U.S. was like during the Carter yrs. Interest rates at 20%+, high inflation, gas lines...etc. Mark my words.

We do have to find a Reagan type to lead the Conservative party.

What Conservative in his/her right mind would go through that dissection process in running for POTUS? After what happened to Palin with her being mocked and slandered at every turn by the media it would be asking a lot of anyone to undergo that ordeal.
Can you imagine what would of happened if McCain was a smoker and Obama wasn't? I can. And the whole "I can see Russia from my front porch" thing, people actually believed she said that (and not Tina Fey). I never heard how much Obama's wardrobe cost and why his family wasn't placed under the microscope and why she was consistently referred to as a Mayor and not Governor.
The next time around it's going to be worse. The media doesn't need facts, they just need to ridicule and allow things to take off and of course if (when) they're wrong, they can bury the retraction in the back pages of a Metro section with the comics instead of putting it on page 1A or giving it 15 seconds before a commercial break instead of leading the newscast with it.

From the Atlas Shrugs blog:

“I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.
Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.
We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?
We learn just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the 700B we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.
We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?
We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?
We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (now violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it wants marriage to remain between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?). We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?
Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government, our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and know precisely what I am talking about)–the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It is potentially 1929 x ten. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.
And now we have elected a man no one knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe is more imporant.)
Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: change.
Why?
I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.
This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.
And that is only the beginning.
And I thought I would never be able to experience what the ordinary, moral German felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the savior was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they did know was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory and promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully them into submission. And then, he was duly elected to office, a full-throttled economic crisis at hand [the Great Depression]. Slowly but surely he seized the controls of government power, department by department, person by person, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The kids joined a Youth Movement in his name, where they were taught what to think. How did he get the people on his side? He did it promising jobs to the jobless, money to the moneyless, and goodies for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe, and across the world.
He did it with a compliant media–did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and . . . change. And the people surely got what they voted for.
(Look it up if you think I am exaggerating.)
Read your history books. Many people objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and made fun of. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though.
Don’t forget that Germany was the most educated, cultured country in Europe. It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And in less than six years–a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency–it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.
As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.
Some people scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. Perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe–and why I believe it.
I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am.”

McCain lost because he wasn't conservative.
Agreed 100%. If it would of been McCain and Hillary, I just wouldn't care, they're both about the same (though McCain and Palin together, I would of voted for Palin, err I mean McCain). HRC though wouldn't let the rest of the world run roughshod over us, she has more b*lls than either Obama or McCain and I doubt she would of socialized us this fast. In fact it was HRC (and Bill and Biden and who knows who else) who had to tell our neophyte president to get off his arse and say something denouncing Iran.
As for Conservatism, it wins every time. We're a center-right nation and center-right ideas win. Just look at Dems who are up for election and how they vote in the 6 months before election day, outside of Mass, So Cal and other liberal bastions, they will vote for conservative laws and ideas, especially southern Dems. Why? Because their short attention spanned constituents only remember what happened recently and that is what the media will concentrate on, what happened yesterday is more important to us than what happened last year or 10 yrs ago.
But just check how a lot of Dems vote when their in campaign mode, you would think they had a -R after their name, it's amazing.

Read your history books.
But not the ones put out by the NEA, to them it's better to learn about the Zulu Nation than to learn about early European democracy, better to know about the KKK or the "rape of this continent" by the earliest settlers/explorers than to learn about Washington, Adams, Hamilton and Jefferson.

This Cap and Trade bill is the worst thing to happen to this country EVER. The poor and average person just got a 100% increase in thier electric bill if it passes the Senate. So if it was $200 a month it will be $400. What about the increase in food, gas, etc. because of extra trucking costs. This isn't AMERICA anymore. It is Obama's Marxist State now. No more blaming Bush.

But please don't forget ... 95% of Americans will receive a tax cut.

At least 75% of the people who live in my neighborhood are out of work. The business that I have had for the last 5 years is not doing all that great. Crime has gone way up in the last 10 years my neighborhood and the ones around mine were crime free, now the neighborhood I have to drive thru to get to mine has had 3 killings in the last 6 mo because of robbery. Women are getting robbed in the Wal Mart parking lot. People are even fighting over scrap metal to feed their families. I have not seen any change except for the bad. It really needs to get better soon. I can't see what they are doing for the crime rate except laying off our police officers because of budget cuts like that is going to help. This change sucks so far for me.

Thing will get worse with Cap and Trade. Everything will cost more. No matter what they call it is a TAX increase and when they raise TAXES it COSTS jobs. I feel real sorry for small business people. thier businesses have slowed because of the economy and now they also will have higher overhead. These Liberal/Marxist in Congress and Obama got to go. We REAL AMERICANS are losing OUR COUNTRY.

The Cap and Trade Bill is basically the same thing Al Gore tried under Clinton and Clinton finally settled for a 5 cent a gallon increase in gasoline taxes. Obama, however, has him self in a box since he pledged not to raise taxes although he does seem to have forgotten about that with his plan to pay for his healthcare program. Under his plan he will tax every employee on the health benefit provided by their employer. If someone earns $50,000 per year and their employer pays $10,000 for the employee and their family's health benefits, the employee's taxable income will become %60,000. So much for no increase in taxes for 95% of Americans.

Does anybody remember the "Not one dime" statement.

Ain't change great.

Ohhh, please Victor, make you case how the Cap and Trade bill, Obama's healthcare reform and the bailout of the UAW are problems of the Bush administration. I don't see anything else that he has even tried to do so far except appoint a guy that doesn't pay HIS taxes in charge of collecting OUR taxes. Obama is a really bad joke that is being played on all of us.

Yeah Bush just spent 780 billion on a useless Stimulus bill and he just spent a TRILLION dollars on a budget....granted Bush didn't do well on a financial policy...but OBAMA is taking us to the poor house. Now with the Cap and Trade and your electric bill about to double and more layoffs coming from it...keep blaming Bush. I am unemployed and what Obama is doing is going to keep me there. Liberals and Marxist like him do not employ people in the private sector....they just create more Govt jobs....like over 20 new Czars that produce nothing. Once he puts everyone out of business where is he going to get income taxes...he isn't getting a penny from me to pay the debt he has created....I don't have income...so not taxes from me....that means he will have to raise yours and I will be laughing at all you LIBERALS that believe his BULLSHIT.

What a bunch of BdS (Bush derangement Syndrome)!
Besides everything else that has been pointed out, don't forget the Dems controlled Congress (and the budget) for the last 2 years of Bush's lame duck term.

(and in the time it took me to type this over a dozen people lost their jobs in the US)
