Why do people feel the need to lie. I myself am an honest person I do not cheat or lie. So why do guys or girls feel the need to lie. Why can't u just break up with someone or tell the truth already.

because they [we] are human
honesty is one of the hardest things to do all the time.the gamut can run anywhere from little white lies to blatantly outrageous stories.
Why can't u just break up with someone or tell the truth already.
that can also run the gamut.anywhere from being a plain a** to not wanting to hurt someone's feelings.it's a tough pill to swallow sometimes but it doesn't make it right.

Why waste your valuable time worrying about "why" people lie? That's not something you have any control over, so grousing about it will just waste your energy. Focus instead on honing your skills at being able to separate the wheat (the honest ones) from the chaff (the liars). You deserve to spend time with a nice person; if you can see someone's a liar, cut your losses and consider it another lesson in the school of life.

I'm convinced that some people lie because they lied once and got away with something. If it worked once, it could work again.

Like when people list their body type as "average" when they have more chins than a Chinese phone book?

everybody tells a lie every now and again some more than others, but people lie for all kinds of reasons like not wanting to hurt somebody's feelings, to make yourself look better to others, to get a job, a mate and on and on.

I've given considerable thought to this in the past and came to the conclusion that people lie for one of the following reasons:
1. They are afraid to tell the truth (whether it's because they don't want to hurt someone, don't want to anger someone, or whatever), or
2. They are too lazy to tell the truth (it's easier for them to lie than to tell the truth and then have to explain)
After some more thought I also decided that almost all of the instances that fall under (1) can probably also be included under (2). Think about that.

I agree, they are gutless. They have no self worth either.
See, I figure if I lie, it is going to come back and bite me in the a** one day. Not only is lying wrong, I don't want to be bit in the a** later on in life by some lie I have told.
Now, I am sure I have lied about somethings. We all do. But I have never lied about MAJOR things.
Things I have lied about would be something along these lines:
"My alarm clock failed to go off" (being late to work excuse)
"There IS a Santa Clause" (weve all been there)
"The fish I caught was THAT big" (its gets bigger every time I remember it LOL)
But I have never lied to hurt someone.
People who know me KNOW, I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. And more importantly - I stand behind what I say. And I prove it everytime. I take pride in being honest.

People lie for a variety of reasons. One is guilt...the "no, I didn't!" lie. That's a desire to avoid consequences.
Sometimes a "white lie" is told to avoid hurting someone else.
I don't want a liar in my life--therefore I don't lie. I have to look myself in the mirror every morning.

I agree with this train of thought I just want express how I came to view it...
They lie because the want or need to steal something from you...
Your rights, your freedom of choice, your time, your money,
or your emotional support.
Yes a liar is very much a coward and very selfish.
To lie to you they have to only be thinking of what is
best for them so they can get what they want. NOT what is
best for you.
