OK so i think we need to have a discussion on NFL QB's...

Does the title "Greatest QB of all time" mean he has more rings, better stats, or is somewhere in between?

My opinion.. Im a huge COLTS fan.. I believe that by the end of Peyton Manning's career, assuming he remains healthy and as consistent as he is now, will be given the title as "The Greatest QB of all time".

Any arguments?

Facts: Manning is on pace to break the All time passing yards record held by Favre. Manning is on pace to break the record of TD Passes held by Favre. Manning is on pace to throw fewer interceptions than the greatest QB's of all time (Favre, Marino...). Mannings career passer rating currently is 10 points better than Favre's and Marino's. Manning has 1 Championship, maybe more to come. Marino has 0 and Favre has 1. Manning is a 3 time MVP as well as 3 for Favre. Manning is a 9 time probowler, Favre a 10 time probowler. Ohh yea Manning has 9 seasons in a row with 4,000+ passing yards. Not to mention Manning has a year and 4 games advantage as a starting QB over Favre. Maybe thats why Favre has to keep comming back to add to his career totals?

OK people.. tell me what YOU think...

Hey, if we're going to measure how great players are based on their individual statistics over their career in a team game, you make a point. Most fantasy league picks whether from players today or yesterday would reward those stats. Yet, winning the Super Bowl is the ultimate reward in team play; and the QB position is the most important measure of a team's success.

Manning is the best ambassador for the game right now. I lived in Indy during their Super Bowl run as a Bears fan and really admired the Colts organization and Manning. Marino, Elway, Favre et. al. had the stats and a few rings.

However, if given the opportunity to take a QB who had all of the supporting members in line and couldn't take "the gunslingers," I'd take McMahon.

Joe Montana was the best at getting his team ready to win; and then, he performed brilliantly in all of the pressure games.

Since this is a dating site, in the spirit of the pursuit of finding solid relationships, I would suggest that the best teammate to have on your team is one who is a proven champion Joe Montana.

Hmm well I love Manning obviously (see my location state) and he's just flat awesome. But Montana was unbelievable too. Plus the time periods make a difference, i would say. If Montana played today and was in his prime maybe he would have even better numbers.

outta these i would say Farve, only becuase before the jets an maybe the vikings. He played just to play. He had fun playing football so much. It was like watching high school football. he doesent even really care about the records. An he lives on a farm in mississipi. So in reality he had kept hes intigerty almost to the end of his carrer.

of all the other QBs here brett Farve was the best only driven by playing the game, purley the game.

p.s excluding these gotta go with #9 drew bress. GO SAINTs

It would have to be a tie between Montana and Favre

Montana - 3 superbowl, 3 superbowl mvps
Favre, record in most games played, most tds, and sadly most itnerceptions.. has played in the most stadiums and if i'm correct 15 or 18 of those stadiums no longer exist.. and gave my NY Jets a close push to the playoffs.. but you had cancers like Lavanues Coles and Thomas Jones causing problems off the field for Favre.

Justin, that's funny. That's how I refer to Tom Brady as well. Now, he's even prettier with his supermodel wife. Can't wait to see how he does this year.

I vote Marino. It's a shame he never got a superbowl ring because he most certainly deserved one.

Forgot to mention Favre has a ring and has been to two Superbowls. What do Brett Fave and the NY Giants have in common? Both are better than the NE Patriots. Brett Favre is undefeated at Gillette Stadium, and the Giants are just plain better than the patriots who had to cheat to get those rings.

I agree. Manning, with Favre a close second. I love the way Peyton Manning can put a football wherever he wants it (most of the time anyway.) Favre hasn't been doing so great the past few years, but he was consistent with the Packers for a long time.

1. Montana (by the end of Tom's career should surpass Montana)
2. Brady (a close second)
3. Favre (records plus a ring
4. Manning (future records holder, maybe one more ring?)
5. Marino (Great records but no ring)

A QB is defined by how clutch he is in big games, when championships are on the line. Nuff said'.

Troy Aikman has to be right up there as one of the best if not the best. He was a very humble quarterback who did not have to have all the TD passes & all the yards passing! He just did what had to be done. Talk about accuracy, none better.
All the yards passing and TD passes is great, but that alone doesn't get you SuperBowls!
ie: Dan Marino.
Being a good quarterback in my opinion is to utilize all the talent from the team. Not just to fill your EGO.
The current QB who reminds me of TROY is BIG BEN! I'm no Steeler fan, but I am a true football fan! And I know he's not getting the respect he deserves.
Yes I may be a little bias, I am a TRUE Cowboys fan and have been since I started watching football has a kid.
Just for the record, a True Cowboys Fan does not agree with the term "Americas Team" I hate that term.

Championships are based on the team thats playing around you.. Stats are based on individual performance and illustrate consistency.. Im sorry but montana might have a few stats in superbowls but were talkin about stats of ALL TIME GREATS.. Its called career consistency.. Manning will be the greatest of all time.. The colts never had a team that was stacked, a dynesty, we will call it.. thats totally different.

Chris Collingsworth made an interesting observation last Sunday night. When they were displaying Manning's career stats compared to the other QB greats, he did mention that he would be considered as the greatest when he wins more than one Super Bowl. Favre fans can make a similar case.
So far, it could be a Minnesota-Indy Super Bowl this year.

Wrong Manning, Eli is way better than his happy footed big brother and won a Super Bowl because of Eli's great play. The Colts on the other hand got their ring because Bob Sanders pulled Peytons fat out of the fire, Peyton played like crap all through the playoffs and in the Super Bowl. They won inspite of #18 not because of him.
And without a doubt the greatest ever was and forever will be Johnny U. End of story.

That comment about needing another championship to be considered greatest of all time is BS! All analysts considered marino best of aff time for awhile based on stats and he had 0 rings!! you can have rings but 1 ring and stats would make him greatest of all time.. and I am sorry but ELI?!?! are you kidding me? Eli is better than Peyton? Hey, I'm a Bears fan who lived in Indy at the time. "Peyton played like crap all through the playoffs and in the Super Bowl"? Were you watching the game? Are you kidding me? As a Bears fan, I only wish that Eli were playing that day instead of Peyton.

You might have been watching the game that you claimed Army played Notre Dame this year or last year. Just so you know, dennyjim: Notre Dame hasn't played Army since 2006 and 1998. You must have been watching that sports la-la land channel or ESPN Classic and thought that it was live.

Notre Dame has been padding their record against Army, Navy and other patsies for decades. Maybe since the BCS has come into the picture they've tried to adjust their schedule to look better for the computer's that now decide the National Championship but that doesn't change the fact that they only play 2 games of consequence all year and every year (Michigan+USC) They're scared of even the bottom feeders in the SEC and rightly so because Vanderbilt and Mississippi St would pound them into the ground.
Knute Rockne is dead and Notre Dame sucks, accept it and start rooting for a team with real talent. Alabama comes to mind.

Quote from dennyjim:

Golf, Funny and Simon are laughing on this one as they know it can strike a chord with the Mort Man. So, I'll have to verbally abuse you regarding your misguided, unintelligent remarks.
First. Army and Navy are patsies? Notre Dame plays Navy every year because of its tradition and respect for the Naval Academy. ND plays Army every 5 years because of its storied rivalry. As a matter of fact, they will play Army next year as the first football game to be played in the new Yankee Stadium. Could Alabama pack them in for that one? I could just see an Alabama hilljack lost in the New York Bronx subway. (someone should make a movie about that; Oh they did...Deliverance II )

Ask Ohio State if Navy is "just a patsy." They played them down to the wire this year. Navy is no slouch. Teams typically don't do as well the next week after playing Navy.

ND tries to "adjust it's schedule to look better for the computer"? ND pretty well books it's schedule 5-7 years out. They have to do it that way because practically everyone in the country wants to play the Irish whether they are good or bad. They want a piece of the $$$$ and the ability to recruit nationally.

While agreeing to keep its commitment to the other programs like Michigan, USC, Michigan State, etc., ND has scheduled patsies like: Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Missouri, Washington, etc. I guess the SEC was too busy scheduling powerhouses like Alabama will play this year: Florida International, North Texas and Tennessee-Chattanooga.

BTW....Since you are going to bash NDs schedule, prior to the 2009 season who are the five Division 1 programs that haven't played Division II teams in their regular seasons?
Notre Dame, Michigan State and three other PAC 10 schools. Michigan State played Montana State this year. So, now it's down to four.

How many times has Alabama defeated Notre Dame? Hmmmm? Alabama's storied coach, Bear Bryant went to his grave having never won against the Irish. Ara owned his ass.

Ooops, got a little off subject there didn't I? Sorry guys...but he made me do it.
Montana...Montana...Montana.....he has the rings.
