I'll take a stab at it. Sex is more "important," if that's the right word, because we are a society obsessed by it. It's everywhere you turn. It's on TV, it's in the newspaper, it's in commercials, it's on the news. I think we've come to simply expect it everywhere. Just in the news the past two years or so, there've been stories of kids as young as elementary school doing in class -- and getting suspended for it. Part of it, I think, was when Jocelyn Elders from the Clinton Administration was trying to get school districts to adopt the "Do It, It's Fun" program as part of the health curriculum. It taught kids how to masturbate! And it was aimed at elementary school kids. I take it from the way you phrased the question you're sort of old fashioned. So am I. I've never been comfortable with our national obsession with sex. Don't get me wrong, I like it as much as the next person. It's just it doesn't have to be the basis of a relationship (of course, that might explain why I haven't been in one for a long time). And I've always believed in a little decorum and privacy. While we're at it, our language patterns have changed so much. I work in a newsroom where a lot of the other males in it have no problem getting into graphic sexual discussion and dropping "f-bombs" with women in the room. I never do either! I never talk like that in front of a woman. I guess that makes me boring and old fashioned and I admit I am.

People want the goods without the commitment. It sucks and it definitely is a partial reason for our huge divorce rate, but the media is eating it up and so are all the kids. I don't see anything changing very soon.

Excellent question..and I have to agree with the posts here. Its scary to read the things I do on these forums..
People, men and women are freaked if they dont have sex NOW..and they are not shy about asking for it online. Its pretty sad.

I think the 70s opened the door , what with free love and all . And now that generations children are looking through that same door . We are also learning to let go of our sexual inhibitions and represions . You take a look back to the 50s and holding hands was taboo if you weren't married . Back in the 80s it was P.D.A.s . Its all the same topic through the generations , only the name changes .

why sex so soon??? It is like why post a photo so soon? You have to know if it is something/someone you like and want to make the effort. Is that wrong? YES in so many ways. Getting to know a person in this fast paced life is something that needs to happen NOW! Sex is a part of that...

in my case its because my ex made me wait for 26 years. birthdays and anniversaries. I think when you are middle aged and want to enjoy you should. no one gets hurt is the key. its natural and most of our sexual prohibitions are leftover from the victorian period. but its got to be mutual.

i dont think sex is more important but people are easily preocupied with it, todays world is a fast food type place hurry up i want it know, always in a hurry to get somewhere world cant wait for anything its that way with sex also , i dont mind waiting a little while but but i also dont want to wait six months eather, ithink people need a little bit of both alittle fast food type action and the sit down for dinner type also
