I loved my Barbies so when I got the dream house and her corvette.
Just thought of another one. My sister and I both got life size dolls and we had to make a run to get gas and we took them with us. And back in the good old days of full service. The man brought out 4 suckers. We thought that was so funny. He thought they were little girls like us..
Aww memories.

I was kind of a nerd when it came to books. I loved and collected all I could get. My Grandfather who was a distant and not very affectionate person built me a three shelf bookcase out of spare lumber so I could put my books in it. Of the many grand kids that he had I was the only one that received a gift just from him. It definitely was the coolest present I ever received!

Mine was a pair of ice skates at age 7. Both my brother and I got a pair that year and we spent the winter learning and getting pretty good at it. I continued to love ice skating until I got hooked on roller skating when I was 13 but I never remembered the new skates I grew into after that first pair. Even though I didn't ice skate anymore , I couldn't part with the last pair until well into my late 20's or early 30's. I still kept the ice skates hanging on the hook though they were no longer used. That first pair of skates came at a time when gifts in our family were really not affordable. It's the love and sacrifice that went into those gifts that still keeps them in my mind when a good forum question like this is asked, 50 years after the fact. Give a kid a special Christmas memory this year even if you think you can't really afford it. Channa

You are so right Channa. My sons and I were talking about this thread the other night over dinner and they started talking about the things we did as a family.. that special Christmas of all home-made decorations and gifts. Such memories can't be wrapped up with a pretty bow.. nor become broken and untouched for years.

Harley, I hope you didn't break her.....
Mine was a Chatty Cathy doll, same blonde hair as mine. Already knew it though, as I had found my gifts that year hidden under a bed, while I was "snooping"....
