Thank you Ge0rge.
Correct. Not the specific age, as I said.
And correct, again. The 'article' not cited is an interview(?) from:
Cougar Love
By Darwin John Moises and Michelle Mendez-Palmares
Singlestalk
In which 'M' is stating what she likes to believe about the term regardless of the origin of the term. Apparently she gleaned the “half-your-age-plus-seven rule” from conversations with her girlfriends(?).
To take a dating site blog and cite it - excuse me, to not cite it - as a definition, and further, to define age ranges and qualify or disqualify certain ages as cougar/not cougar is stupid - or maybe it's normal, I get confused. When you pass on misinformation, people believe it. Definitions are not subjective.
I don't like made up nonsense being passed on as fact. Word meanings do indeed change and evolve, and that has nothing to do with the word 'cougar' having to do with behavior - the behavior of an older woman toward a younger man.
Next time I'll make a p*ssy comment so I can get lolz and flirts, eh?
You are absolutely wrong. The term "Cougar", as with many other terms out there, is foremost a colloquial term used to describe a temporal or permanent characteristics of the individual, which can be applied to any gender. The behavioral or age association ascribed to a Cougar, is highly spurious. Males can be Cougars depending on the context in which it is used and the same applies to females as well. You failed to show how context could help define the semantics and syntax of the use of the term, "Cougar". Assocaiting a behavior or age to a term that describes a temporal or permanent characteristics of an individual, makes me wonder about your ability to fully evaluate complex subject matters.

There are no absolutes in opinions and evaluation of complex subject matters and IMHO your paragraph makes absolutely no sense. These associations are described and given meaning usually by comedians or close knit friends making fun of things they notice in their settings. That's being colloquial which is probably not even an issue.
Cougars (or anything cat related) is generally meant to describe the feminine aspect of nature in humanity. I'm sure no one would call you a cougar even if you purred like one.

Who said there were absolutes in opinions and evaluations???? Well, while my paragraph makes no sense to you, it may make sense to others. So, who are these comedians you speak of that use the term, "Cougar", so routinely?? Your opinion of the term, "Cougar", fails to adequately reflect the richness and braodness of that term. I don't beleive you can pideonhole that term to suit your purposes.
A Cougar is supposed to represent a person with feline tendencies, to include both the sublime and the aggressive aspects of felines. It cuts across both genders, even though it may well be exhibited more so among the ranks of older females. That was my point, even though you were unable to comprehend it. While no one would ordinarily call me a "Cougar", it does not exclude its use with any other male out there, depending on the context in which it is used. I hope my comments will not confuse you any further.

I don't like that word when applied to women. I usually date men many years younger simply because that's how it usually turns out. I don't go looking for them. I was doing it way before that term "cougar" was being used in that way.
Did you really mean you're 75 and date men 10-15 years older?? Where on earth do you find them?? Surprised that they're still interested in dating!!
Anyway, of the younger men I've dated/been in relationships with, none have never asked for money.
Same criteria goes for them as it would with an older man. We must be compatible, mutually attracted to each other, have enough in common to make it work, and mutually respectful.
I date men from my area only, and usually I meet them during my real life, not on dating sites. So, I don't get the scammers. Wouldn't anyway. We should all know how to spot them by now.

Does anyone even know what a lexicographer does? Does anyone know the meaning of the word 'etymology'?
There was a fool on here a while back insisting that calling a woman a (S.L.U.T.) was a compliment because, to him, it was an acronym for Sexually Liberated Un-Tamed. Yeah, right.
Ignorant people misusing words and terms just means that ignorant people always have and always will misunderstand and misuse words.
Oh, yeah, and eff the Urban Dictionary. (I can't curse yet.)

Cougar or man-wh*re---both will exhibit the sublime and aggressiveness of a feline such as a Cougar, and to varying degrees, depending on the environment, don't you think so?

I believe that if two consenting adults fall in love it makes no difference who is the older or younger one. For some reason, years ago people believed only men could date younger. Now thanks to my generation we women have leveled that playing field! I say girls if you've got it then go for it. CJ

A cougar is an animal like the Liger. Maybe if you showed nunchuk skills, you could get the scammers to stay away while at the same time impressing them with some glamour shots.

The 'official' way in which to determine if you are indeed a 'Cougar' is thus:
take your age, let's say it's = 35
cut that in half = 17.5
then add 7 to that number = 24.5
if you are dating a guy YOUNGER than that final number, then U R a Cougar.
