I'm told that usually every thing is decided or mediated before then and the court date is merely a formality. The meter is at $3,500 now and I figure I've got at least another $1,500 to go. We've got another Friend of the Court Hearing on the 23rd that will decide the issue if don't come up with a plan of our own. I'm told that, in Michigan, it usually goes 50/50 week on, week off if both parents want to be involved and one of them isn't some kind of evil being. That's why she inferred that I've molested my daughters. Talk about evil...

somethingrare Abilene, TX 52, joined Jul. 2009	Depends on how nasty or smooth it goes. A really smooth divorce done by two who don't fight it could be done in less than a year. If both people are stubborn or all out wanting to hurt the other to best of their ability. It might take more than a year. Children disputes can often drag it out longer. Mine took 5 months. Not because she was agreeable. She made a few mistakes, the Judge came down hard on her and I didn't fight for every single piece of material property we owned. Gave her the entire Gold mine and took my son. I know of one that took 4 months, Reason was both parties was very agreeable and didn't argue at all over anything. But once seeing the judge not long at all. It took about a year and since I had already left him and had the kids with me. The judge talked to him then gave me his balif to walk me to my car and I had a friend with me. See the judge saw that he was cuckoo. Just a lot more of a headache than time.

I had to get a restraining order agianst him, because he's so crazy. He barely sees his daughter, but says that he should have custody of her. He is only doing that to hurt me. Because he knows that is the only way to hurt me.

nevaehly Quincy, WA 57, joined Aug. 2009	The state of Washington requires a 90...cool down period..after filing...good thing we both went to the court house...he went to try and get me to change my mind...I went to make sure he didn't pull anything..found out we hadn't finish all the paper work... So... took 20 min. to fill out the first paperwork....$250.00 filing fee...90 day waiting period..another 20 mins. filling out the rest of the paperwork...5 mins. with the judge...Quick and easy...the only way to go... 90 days and 45 mins. and $250.00 is all it took after 31 years of marriage..... how sad is that..

I drafted the Complaint and Judgment and walked her through the procedures. She paid $100 for her lawyer to look over the Judgment. It took 91 days from start to finish because of the cooling off period here in Michigan. Apparently, she got tired of me. It happens and there's nothing one can do about it. I'll never get married again as marriage comes with way to many expectations and often too much baggage; but I do want a LTR with someone special. Just a matter of finding her. Easier said than done!

After thirty days the judge is supposed to review and then approve. It could all be over in six weeks. Does anyone know why divorce is so expensive? The whole separation/divorce proccess took almost two years due to all the lawyering that took place, and that was a "no fault" divorce in Florida too. The whole proccess was miserable. I don't ever want to go through that again.

It's been very contentious and ugly but a court appointed mediator made a big difference. Next week Friday we go before the judge and we get it done. I am relieved. The nightmare is finally coming to an end.

barrydean Springville, UT 47, joined Sep. 2009	mine took two weeks only because the judge was on vacation.my ex typed up the papers made some huge mistakes and screwed herself so i signed them in front of the clerk.she wasnt to happy 6 months later when she realized all her plans that her and the guy she cheated on me with couldnt happen without my permission.i have to say that was a great day when she realized it in front of all our friends and her family.kind of put a damper on the party but god it felt good.

We made it real easy we had already devided up the assets so all the judge had to do was make sure the custody agreement was fair to both of us. Now my brother lived in NC when he married and divorced and his took nearly 2 yrs.

Since I moved to TX and they lived in TN I only had to wait the time for residence in order to file. Whole divorce from that point took maybe a month with papers going back and forth.
