Hi, I am leaving for a week in St George, Utah. The only thing I will miss are my pets! We have a relative come
twice a day to feed, water, clean up. Even so, I worry about my old cat, who is used to my constant attention.
How about the rest of us, what do you do when you go away?

I have always had my neighbor take care of my 2 cats. The last time I was gone 5 days and he only checked on them twice. I did consider hiring a pet sitter, but really didn't want a stranger in my house. I am never gone for more than 5 days. I know they have dry food and water that will last that long and the cat boxes won't get too full.

A cat can take care of themselves for a few days, just leave enough food, water, and litter,When i had my dog we would usually put them in a kennel.

I haven't been on a vacation in many years as I would not trust anyone else to watch my dog.
The only way that I would go anywhere would be if I could take him along.

I notice the motel in St George where I am going to stay takes dogs... but not cats! What's with that? Cats, in
general, do prefer the home life. I have seen cats lurking at three motels where I have stayed. Ferals, or lost?
I tried each time to coax, breaks my heart to think of any lost pet. I am fortunate to have a relative who will come
twice a day to change water, check on them etc.

Maybe because cats are more apt to mark their territory than dogs. I know my dog wouldn't spray a hotel or motel room whereas a cat might?

Not saying your cats, just cats in general.

Most of the time, my dog is welcome where I am... if not, I will pay the extra money and stay at a hotel that allows him. In the worst case... where I get stuck somewhere overnight, he stays with my parents, brother or niece (depending on where we are at the time). I also have a friend who begs to dog sit for me... but her dog and my dog only tolerate each other in short bursts lol.

Mine sleep in their boxes and prefer it that way so if I had to travel and in a position to bring them along they would sleep in their boxes but usually my parents will come over and feed them for me.

Chester goes with me. We just got home from a weekend trip to the family farms in Eastern WA. He had a BLAST! He met 6 dogs, lots of cats, and a herd of cattle. He got to visit with lots of people, go for a couple long car rides and stay in a hotel. It was a very exciting 24 hrs for him. By the time we got home, he was so exhausted he spent most of the evening sleeping and went to bed early.

My dog usually goes with me. If I can't take her, my Mom will keep her. My sister in law comes over to feed the donkey. I can't take him anywhere
I give the fish vacation feeders, and leave plenty of food and water out for the cat. When the kids were little we took thier pets on vacation with us. My son had a rabbit and my daughter had a pot belly pig. They really traveled well. We even took kittens camping!
