Why is it that some people have what appears to be an impulsive need to change other people?
Is the world really full of control freaks that believe they manipulate people?
Here is an analogy from the movie “Arthur” (The alcoholic millionaire) Anyway, the lady said… “The right woman could stop you from drinking” Arthur retorted… “It would have to be a really big woman”
I believe a person will seek to change themselves or their habits when they see the behavior bothers someone they care about. But if that person tries to force the person to change, all they will get is resistance.
Anyone else agree or disagree? Please share your opinion.

I don't believe you can change a person. They have to want to change it's up to them.

I do not think a woman or man should enter into a relationship expecting to change a person. I think a couple grows with individual needs and desires, and that they have selected a person who is passionate about the same things in life.
Sharing, caring and loving together will improve any relationship.
Based on mutual curiosity and values, most relationships will meld together the two people involved.
When boredom sets in, they are doomed to separation of lifestyle.

Only if they want to change within themselves.... some people spend thier whole lives in and out of relationships trying to change someone and then when they see they can't they move on to the next one.... it's like an addiction for some.

It amazes me that people would even consider changing the one that they love... if ya did that...they wouldn't be the one you fell in love with anymore...

No, maybe just influence them to be attracted to things that attract you!! then you can enjoy them together, but as far as total change no way, and you shouldnt want to, because thats not the person you want to be with then anyway.

Yes I agree that it’s interesting to explore what interests the other person has, it opens doors to new things. I’ve picked up some hobbies and interests from people I have dated and continue them even though I’m no longer with them. It’s also true that I didn’t enjoy thing they liked. But I never said they couldn’t do them anymore, it’s just not for me. I had a girlfriend who loved kayaking… I could only stay up on that thing for about 1.3 seconds before falling off. We would still go together to the lake, but while she paddled around, I was content sitting on the shore.

Marriage is about compromise. Both people working to make the relationship better. Each wanting what's best for the other and the partnership.
I agree...don't go into anything expecting change.

Hello I am Beth, and yes it is possible to change someone, but why would you
pick someone you had to change? However i do believe you are right, if we really
care about someone ,then we should try to change ourselves to make that person
a happier one.
