Dear friends,
How sad it is that the poorest country in the world needed a natural disaster to get our attention.
As Christians this country should have had our attention long ago. The infrastructure is incapable of handling the traffic and humanitarian aide BECAUSE of OUR negligence in the past couple of decades.
If there is no way to get flights in and out. If the USA and Brazil are feuding over who is going to 'manage' the relief effort or the law enforcement. If the Christians of the first world are to sit in their comfortable pews dropping a $20.00 donation and feeling self satisfied, then take their families out for a $30.00 fast food dinner and feel their duty has been done. If the Churches (plural and ecumenically) cannot or will not see this as a sign of our previous errors.
Then it is WE who are guilty of negligence.
The idiotic idea that the church has no place in making policy or directing its members to active participation in their own countries decision making process then the church (that would be everyone in this forum) is shirking its responsibilities.
Where are we in the Darfur crisis? Why have we not involved ourselves both individually and corporately to seek justice so that peace is possible.
We cannot prepare for the unexpected natural disasters but we are certainly both able and responsible to act to further the development of persons who are disadvantaged in our global community.

You non-Catholics are allowed to read it too. It is a short document and requires no real great philosophical or theological background and is not steeped in difficult language. You Catholics should have read it but if you haven't now is the time.

What did Pat Robertson say...."This country is cursed"....okay I know I'm taking his complete dissertation out of context....but let me add my own philosophy/knowledge:
THESE PEOPLE ARE PRECIOUS SOULS. Our Father God LOVES them. They need immediate help.
No other thing need be considered at this point in time.
Do what you can. And may God bless you.

We have ALL sinned either in actions or inactions. They are referred to as sins of commision or sins of ommission.
Will we learn from this horrible human tragedy and focus on helping the other countries whose citizens are unable to realize their God given gifts through no fault of their own.
I am NOT preaching communism nor socialism but development and sincere brotherhood.
How many other countries have we neglected and done so KNOWING their plight. We of the wealthy and powerful nations. Will we hold our elected officials to account for policies that impoverish and enslave others for the sake of their resources?
WE did not help Haiti in the last few decades. WE did not support education and the building of infrastructures to get them on their feet.
When did we see you hungry, or in prison, or sick? What you have done to the least of these you have done it unto me. <<<<< badly paraphrased. find the passage yourself (and don't you dare squabble about the slight variations in translations).

They had another earthquake in Haiti this morn.
I don't know if it is true but I heard that it was caused by Brown defeating Coakley in Massachusetts last eve.
The headlines went something like this...
... "Brown Wins! Republicans Bring More Destruction to Haiti!"
