I think that we should all just live our lives and try to leave others alone! Qustion for u, If you grew up across the border, would u try to leave to make a better life for u and ur family. That is if you know what it is like across. I have been there many many times and let me tell, It Is A Whole Different World!!!!
I just think that sometimes people should try to see themselves in some one elses shoes. I bet a lot of americans will die to have them removed, that is the shoes I am talking about. As americans, we are so spoiled and utterly lazy! We have so much that so many of us take advantage of! Why label someone cause at times they are working harder than the next person!
So there it is!!

I'm also straddling the fence on this issue. Conditions in other countries are terrible, and I don't think we appreciate enough how good we have it even when we see that people are willing to risk their lives just for the chance to come to our country.
On the other hand, jobs are hard to come by for Americans... either because we have foreign workers here, or businesses send their work overseas. There are perfectly legal ways of coming to America. I would like to see our businesses care more about our country's economy than about pinching a few dollars. Keep American companies in America, then we wouldn't have the argument about immigrants stealing our jobs.

thanks for the posts howaboutme22 I am not just talking about Mexicans there are lots of others that come here illegally I'm not saying things are easy for them there the problem I have is the amount of money we as Americans spend in health care and prisons and all the other things that our taxpaying dollars go to. By some figures that is more than 7 billion a year if we could take that money and put it towards creating new jobs instead would not the whole world be better off yes you can come to this nation legally but people will not go through the necessary channels to do so. Maybe I am being closed minded but if you come here illegally then you should not be entitled to gov. money or health care or anything when average Americans can not make a living here

Guess I find myself on both sides of the fence on this one. I had married an immigrant who was illegal, and no I didnt marry him just to fix his papers. I did try and help him to become a "legal resident", but it gets very expensive and at the time wasnt "open season". I think if people knew some of I.N.S. policys and some of the things they do, they wouldnt be so open minded and willing for illegals to come here illegally and gain citizenship. Some not all, do come to the U.S. to better their lives and the lives of their family, and are unable to even get "resident", some come here get free health care, food, housing and everything without ever having to work and pay our TAXES. After I divorced my husband because of the abuse, he went back to Mexico.
Was having a similar conversation with some fellow co-workers on this matter today. Has anyone really thought about the "what ifs", when the U.S. goes ahead and builds the coridor thru the U.S? It will basically leave the borders open and free for all to come here. Also leaving it wide open for terrorists to come in and take over the U.S. and attack us on our own ground. Maybe I am wrong, but i dont think building a coridor is a good idea, (plus I dont want my taxes to sky rocket and be forced to sell my property because it is in the location of plans to build.) If you take the time to look around you, you will notice we are becoming the minority. For example, I have a child who is in Pre-K, 18 kids total and 4 being white. 2 girls and 2 boys are white. During nap time my daughter and the other white child has to sleep in a corner, the 2 boys in another corner and the rest of the children nap in the middle of the classroom. The other day my daughter and the other girl was talking during nap time and lost what the teacher calls "special priveledges" of sleeping in the corner and now has to nap with the rest of the kids. This has bothered me since school has started, and I told the teacher its not really a priveledge, that I am happy she has to nap with the other kids. What message is this sending to young kids?
My Grandfather came to the U.S from Norway but he worked to get here, worked on the ship while getting here and became a citizen the correct way. So yes, at some point in our family genes we all started out illegal but became legal the right way. I guess there isn't really a right or wrong anwser to immigration.

missing out it is nice to hear a story like that and thank you for sharing it my great-grandparents came over from Germany and they too did not get off the boat until they were legal. Some times I feel America should be called "The land of opportunity for those who cheat and steal" we have gone so far back that I fear the light at the end of the tunnel is the oncoming train

Immigration is the foundations of what America is today--- generations before us all came from different backgrounds to come to this land for freedom and a better life for all of us. My family came from Spain and Portugal and worked in the sugar cane fields back in the late 1800s for a better life. We need immigrants also to do the work that many of us don't want to do. Just imagine if we did not have immigrants!? There would be noone that would want to do janitorial work, construction hard labor, or work at fast food places. Here in Hawaii, if we did not have filipinos working as hotel housekeepers, or micronesians working at fast-food or the 7-elevens,... they would straight up go out of business-- gotta supprt immigration- or else would any of us really be here?!

if we let other countries get the full price owed them for their natural resources; if corporations pay a living wage here and in other countries, if the usa stopped selling weapons all over the world and stopped arming and funding rogue nations; then people would live better lives in their homelands and just want to come here for a visit. we wouldn't have millions of people fleeing for their lives from war or starvation.

sorry chinatown but that really does not make sense the US is not the only one selling weapons over seas by a long shot. As in WWII Churchill said to Roosevelt "We must aline with him (Stalin) to defeat a common foe" meaning some times we must ally with a questionable person to stop a bigger threat that is going on

wow, immigration, this is atopic we all wont too soon be getting over. i think most people are torn apart because we are america...were the dream. we already have that dream and too many seem to take advantage of that. but if we let immigrants just flood the gates, many, many people may lose their jobs. but honestly in my own special opinion, i dont care if ur and immigrant... come to america, be free and live well...just go through the appropriate procedures to do so. immigartion would be saved alot of slack if the government suspended illegals from the country until a special time from which they can become americas people....i may sound stupid, but its my own opinion. thanks

i think that there is no problem what so ever with immigrants coming to this country or to other countries. the only thing that i disagree with is. . .
if you move to canada or and english speaking country, speak english.... or what ever language they speak...
dont try and change our cultures or other countries coultures to suit your beliefs... embrace thiers. . .
