anne654 Springfield, MO age: 53	We've all had jobs, (no real excitement maybe, but the paycheck comes in handy) careers, (something we have done for several years, went to school for it) and then there are callings (a job, career, etc. that we are passionate about, that makes getting up in the morning fun).....I'll start this off......had jobs in the medical field before I married and had children, then a stay at home mom for too many years for my own good....another job as a grocery store cashier....a career (I thought!) as a substitute teacher, and finally my calling as a counselor. This is the one I love getting up in the morning for, can't imagine retiring from for years yet. Hope others will share here too, this is my first thread I've posted - Becky

Before I was married(young)- during 1st marriage - before and after my children were born - I worked as a secretary (now it's office assistant)in a Speech & Hearing Clinic, nurse's assistant in Intensive Care Unit and Home Care, started a home based business to work around my children's schedules and finished my bachelor's degree while working and raising my family. There have been many other "jobs" I have done throughout my life, but my career was in Therapeutic Intervention as a counselor and therapist, emphasizing rehabilitation and independent living. Served many different ages and populations through therapeutic intervention and counseling - abuse, addiction, mental illness, physical disease and disabilities, from traumatic brain injury to stroke and Alzheimer's. My calling was and is serving the elderly. I had my own consulting business in addition to my position as a Vocational Counselor when I retired. I continue, to serve as an advocate (volunteer) for families and individuals to receive the services they need to stay in their homes. Can't stay away from it, so I know what you mean when you say, "this is the one I love getting up in the morning for". Thanks for asking. classyguy333 West Fargo, ND age: 56	I was a clerk in an Education center in the Army whild stationed on Okinawa. I farmed from when I got out of the service until the politics of the corporate structure started weighing too heavily. From there I was a farm manager for a year, until I found out the guy I was working for had alot of other dealings going on. Nuff said there. Then I drove truck for awhile, and helped build a couple of houses, just to keep food on the table. Then I got into the Veterans Administration part time as a food service worker, just to get my foot in the door. About four months later I was hired to be a boiler operator trainee. After I was trained in that I have been a boiler operator for the past 22 years. I have never had a day when I didn't want to go to work at this job.

Offset printing press - Westinghouse 5. Dairy Queen 6. Piggy Wiggy 7. True Value Hardware Store 8. Bakery in a grocery store 9. Beer & Pop Warehouse 10. K-mart 11. Last 14 yrs. property management. Should have stayed with Westinghouse...I could be retired...but I decided to get married and have babies.

1pinkstar Omaha, NE age: 55	I have been employed as a Waitress, Carhop, Nanny, Computer Operator, Customer Service Agent, Newspaper Delivery person, Keypunch Operator, Seamstress, Sunday School teacher, Teacher's Aide, Newspaper Editorial Assistant, Newspaper Writer/Photographer, Public Relations Assistant, Copywriter, Editorial assistant, Writer, Editor, Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant, Social Service Worker, Budget Analyst, Tax Preparer, Food Stamp and ADC worker, Title XX worker, Paralegal, and Paternity and Support Specialist. In between and in addition to those paying occupations, a Wife, a Mom and a new Grandma.

whidbey Normal, IL age: 57	I've done many things - all legal - to put dinner on the table, from being a dishwasher, waitress, bartender, running my own international company and now a consultant with a focus in training and change management. By far the most interesting and most adventurous job was as a civilian instructor on board an aircraft carrier - BEFORE women were on carriers. So it was me and 5000 guys - talk about attitudes!

annazzassi Newport News, VA age: 56	Becky - now you've done it - made me go think back through the years I have delivered newspapers, babysat, worked in a military snack bar, cut grass, cleaned offices, worked in a fabric store, cashier in a shoe store, bookkeeper in a jewelry store, caretaker, computer programmer/analyst for the Army, Navy, IRS, Housing and Urban Development, Health, Education and Welfare, and NASA. I have also been a Sunday School teacher and a trainer for various computer systems. I am now a web designer/developer. cmed68 Poquoson, VA age: 63	Newspaper delivery boy Burger flipper at the second ever Mc Donald's to open in Illinois (hated that one) Dishwasher and hospital kitchen aide (very unskilled job but great crowd to party with at the time) Medical corpsman U.S. Navy 20 years with various jobs both clinical and administrative to include radiology tech, public relations, medical administrator, operations planning, budget planning, and others Information researcher/technical librarian Business manager Industrial security manager government contracting companies I am happy to report I have never been unemployed since age 17, was laid off with 10 weeks severance pay in 1991 and found a job within four weeks, and at present the future is very uncertain but if I had to i could retire.
