That special relationship to last a lifetime..... who has been lucky enough to see that relationship and watched how they treated each other and stive to become that couple?
In my case......it was my parents....never heard my Dad speak a harsh word to my Mom...I'm sure they had disagreements.....but they were held outside of the hearing of us kids. They treated each other with mutual respect, and the love was obvious just in the way they looked at each other.

Grandparents on Mom's side. Even as a kid, I saw the love between them. They worked side by side in the fields, ate meals together, went to church together. I remember when they were in their 70s. I went to visit with them. I had walked into their home to get some ice tea and stood at the door watching them. Grandpa had his arm around Grandma on the porch swing. He leaned over and whispered something in her ear. She turned red and giggled like a school kid. Sure, they had their struggles. Only thing was, it never occured to either one to give up on the other

There was a commercial a few years back with a young couple in a park, walking arm in arm, overtaking an older couple walking arm in arm. The commercial was for a jeweler, but the message for me was love is forever.
I wept just a little thinking about all the years that older couple spent together, making it through the tough times and celebrating the good times - and all those memories they had ... TOGETHER.
That's what I want. I want to be walking arm and arm in the park with my lover and friend knowing we have made it through life - TOGETHER.
Just call me Pollyanna...sigh.....

helloeyes, I was fortunate to have parents like you did. It was wonderful. I was married to the same man for 26years and he passed away last Feb. We didn't argue. We had dissagrements, but we didn't fight.

I had that special relationship with my 2nd husband. I’m not looking for him, but I know the feeling of being totally accepted and loved. I felt the same way about him. We completely trusted each other because we trusted ourselves.
