I'd never date a humanist... too much for individual rights with complete disregard for the law and the general being of society. Crime control is the only way to go with me. Criminals should pay for their crimes with torture leading up to death. How many recidivists would there be if we made an example of them? If you steal, you lose your hand. Not only would that be extremely inconvinient, but also excrutiatingly painful. You are then forever marked as a thief. I am far more concerned with the safety and well-being of the "normal" population

Ignorance truly is bliss. Tommy...not only have I studied the Bible I think I probably studied it WAY more in depth than you - you shouldn't make such rash rushes to judgement. I was in an intensive Religious Philosophies of the World class that studied all of the Aramaic languages of the Koran and the Bible - which I have read, and debated in HEBREW verse by verse. When you EQUAL that amount of doctrine - then I'll be willing to enter a religious theological debate - that being said....
I was kind in expressing my view point...
you were not.

I love the irony. You accuse me of jumping to conclusions, and you did too. We should make up.
??? ???? ??????
^It doesn't recognize my hebrew font, but I can get my point across.
I have been through Bible College. Studied in Hebrew.
I know the Koran better than most lay muslims.
I have proficient familiarity with Egyptian, Norse, Sumerian, Irish, Babylonian, Greek, Roman, Hindu, and even the satanic religion.
I agree, it does get burdensome and more twisted than Alice's rabbit hole. Yet, the truth must be found. I hope you haven't given up

Well said and taken, friend...we both jumped to conclusions. Yet each is entitled to freely listen, express and reject without condeming another as ignorant.

the problem with your preference there silver, is that our current system of justice is fairly terrible. Race, and social class of both the victim and the crimminal factor in way to much on determining guilt or the harshness of the punishment.
When Lorena Bobbit can be found not guilty because of spousal abuse, but the husband is found not guilty of spousal abuse, somethings fishy there.
I lived in the Bay area when the Scott Peterson fiasco was going on, and a local paper printed an article, showing 2-3 similiar incidents with poor hispanics with no where near the same police action or media coverage.
While I am inclined to eye for an eye, i think as a culture, the focus needs to be on preventitive measures, not gruesome punishments.

I agree, and your real world logic astounds!
I think prisons should be abolished. I'm not suggesting the terms, yet I think if a crime is without doubt proven and grave, death is applicable. Death would be directly after sentence.
Everyone else should be rehabilitated. Think half way houses that work.
Different programs for different folks. Like a home that teaches drug dealers how to use their obvious skills in networking and sales to establish a business. Penalties would apply of course. Financial and forced labor.
Hell, just give thieves labor camps. No one would steal a TV if the result was 6 months of 12 hour work days of manual labor

I like the sudden death idea - like in football!
I am serious by the way.
I don't agree with prisons.
If the crime was that serious - do we really want them educated, reformed and fed for life?
I sort of like the Old West's justice system....
I don't know - does that make me a bit of a Republican?
I don't do labels.

There are problems with us as people regardless of what belief system we subscribe to.
To me the biggest problem facing our society is that respect for the rights of others is sorely lacking at the heart of our being and it filters all the way up to the level of government.
The saddest result is that we no longer believe in the political system the Founding Fathers bequeathed us. Instead, all of us feel our moral superiority gives us license to intrude into the rights of others at the most basic level: the rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence. We have lost sight of what the true purpose of government is.
Whether we are religious or not, no one has a halo on our heads.
We all have self-examination to do. The quicker we do that the better our society will be and the freer we all will be. Until then, we can only expect things to get worse...
