How many of you women would see deafness as a barrier? everyone says communication is a big key to every relationship...the deal is...would you learn other ways to communicate? Just wondering..some girls have allowed it to be a barrier...even had one mother go so far as to tell me that she didn't want me datin her daughter b/c she didn't want any deaf grandchildren....

Deafness is a minor inconvenience compared to the many other barriers out there.
I have always wanted to learn sign language.

If I was interested in someone that was deaf, I would run
out and buy some sign language books, and take some classes.....providing they used sign language.....If not I would buy stalk in "mead" and "bic" cus I talk a lot......

Has absolutely no bearing on whether I would date a man or not. In fact I have dated a deaf man and loved every minute of it.

If I met someone and I was attracted to him it wouldn't matter. A t.v. show that my youngest son and I used to love to watch together that was on in repeats yesterday when he was visiting is Sue Thomas F.B.Eye. I loved the way that in the beginning of the series she was given a token job to fill some sort of quota hiring, and stood up to demand she be used to her full potential as an educated woman with great communication skills. [It was after all based on a true story -- but geared to modern television if you aren't already a fan yourself.]
I wouldn't worry too much about the woman who didn't want deaf grandchildren. Even if a person doesn't believe in karma as such, life does have a way of coming back to bite people in the ass in these matters. Hope not for her sake but odds are....

Let me just start off by saying that I only have about 25% hearing in my right ear and 65% in my left from multiple ear surgeries as a kid.
Nothing wrong with being deaf...I would totally date a deaf man, I would even learn sign language to be his sweetheart (not in a desperate way, but if I felt a connection, I would do it cause you cant help who you fall in love with, it just happens).
Music is such a HUGE part of my life....I would even take him to a music festival where he could feel the bass of the drums, bass guitar and the other instruments just to have him feel what I hear, we could dance to the beat.
Forget the woman that said she didnt want deaf grandchildren...I dont think deafness is contagious. As for the girl, well if she didnt date you because of what mom said, then she wasnt good to date anyways....too many problems when the girl has a controlling mother involved, the mother becomes a part of your relationship...so good riddance to her.
There are women out there honey that would love to pick up a CUTIE such as yourself....hang in there, you are young and when you find the "one", she will be a GEM to have gotten the chance to be with you!

I have seen you post here before about the same thing. I understand it can be difficult to find someone, but you need to have more confidence in yourself and stop looking at your deafness as a disability or a crutch. I am sorry, hate to sound mean. But if you can't get over it and keep mentioning it, how is any woman going to be able to get past it and work through it.
I believe there is someone out there for everyone, but you need to learn to love yourself first, flaws and all, before you can allow someone to love you.

I almost dated a deaf guy in my twenties, but one week one of our friends Rose came with
us and the two of them really hit it off and I sort of pushed them together as she was more into him than I was. She was with him for two years. I knew some sign language and she did
not. But he could lip-read. It wasn't a barrier at all to her or him. So keep trying.
There is a deaf guy in his fifties on another site. Just keep trying, many hearing women
would date you. I used to go to the deaf club all the time to hear my friend's band, that is why I took a course. I always enjoyed signing even though I never got fluent in it.
Unfortunately, I never use it anymore, and forgot everything but a few signs and the
alphabet.

I wouldn't mind dating a Hearing impaired or deaf woman. I've been teaching myself sign language for quite some time now
Deafness is not like mental illness it is not genetic

No barrier in my opinion. You learn to communicate in different ways.

Huh......can't hear ya. That's what I tell the boss every year when he tells me it's time for the annual hearing test. He's usually got his middle finger ready for the 'bird' now, because he finally after 20 years has it figured out I'll be saying it.
It's probably not a barrier to other deaf people and people that know sign language. JMO

Deafness, while it can cause communication difficulties can certainly be overcome if she learn ASL. I have always admired people who can sign. It's amazing.
There are soooooooooooooooooooo many worse handicaps anyone of us oculd be faced with.
