Yep, I am guilty too! I use them to store leftovers in the fridge. I too am a recycling nut. I recycle newpapers, milk jugs, cans, any thing plastic with a 1 or 2 on the bottom. I hate to see all that stuff end up in the land fill.

I stopped buying the margarine in tubs quite a while back. I discovered that it was actually made as a lubricant. They added some coloring to it and sell it as a butter now. Imagine that!! Butter is the real thing!!!
I stopped using plastic containers years ago as well. Hitting garage sales I've picked up glass storage containers from the 30's thru the 60's. If i have leftovers, that's what i use. For leftovers that can be frozen, I use quart sandwich bags.
for those of you who have tons of plastic containers, during the summer months, if you go to the blueberry farms, you can just wash them, leave them wet, and store them in the plastic containers in the freezer. the blueberries do not stick to each other, so its nothing to spoon out some for cereal or baking needs. (i use the freezer bags because they stack a little better.
thanks for the tip on the centers who would use the stuff for delivering meals though. that's a neat idea.

I'm guilty.... of throwing them away. When my mother in law died, I cleaned out her kitchen. Hundreds and hundreds of cottage cheese and butter containers. Think of all the hot water, soap and time spent to wash those and keep them in the cupboard and never use them.

I sometimes get a big chef salad at work and they come in these really nice plasic container with the lid attached, I always keep them. Nice if I need to take a dish to someones house, then I let them keep them. They think that's really nice. Plus they come in handy for storing other things in besides food. I only pay $3.99 for the salad and have a nice container afterwards. PLUS THE SALADS ARE GREAT!!!!!

Oh, was I guilty of this some time back. Now, I don't buy anything in plastic containeres if there is any way I can avoid it. I just hate the thought of plastic touching my food now. My big thing is saving those bags i keep accumulating from the grocery store and from other stores because I always forget to put my cloth shopping bags back in the car. They do save me money, though since I line all my small trash cans with them and use them when I am ooking to put the scraps from prep. They are ready to put in the trash can when I'm throgh. This bothers me some because of the landfill issue, but when it gets too bad, I load up the back end of my van and head for the recycle bin in town. I am a saver of nearly anything else. i have bits of floss for embroidery, yarn (for the many colored afghan i'm gonna make someday). Time's running out on that, though. I have one huge antique clothes press thing crammed full of craft and art stuff. Guess who will probably have to deal with that? My kids when I die, that's who. anybody need out of fashion beads? quilt scraps? Plastic canvas bits ? yarn? glue, paint(most of it isn't dried up). I'd have a garage sale, but it would be too embarrassing.

I was guilty at one time..when I was raising a family...but now, no..if I have them at all..they are thrown out. I have this phobia about plastic, and if I can avoid having it in the house I do...there is not a single plastic cup, bowl or dish in my cupboards.
