I think I’m missing something about this online dating thing. I know this doesn’t apply to all but it seems to apply to most. How can you know someone without meeting them. And why go online and say your looking to meet MR. Right but not be willing to meet in person. I understand that you may want to talk to them so you may get to know them but how long do you talk via email and then phone and then finally meet in person. I never went to a bar or club or other social function and said “I can’t talk to you till I get to know you” email me for a month then we’ll see. So my question is this "What am I missing?"

I don't know how you know someone without meeting them in person. It makes a differece to see if their eyes dance or are dead. It makes a difference if their scent is attractive. How long before you meet? I don't think there is a time table for that, you know when it is right, when you know it. Both seem to know that.

Well loverboy for me personally I like to email the person for a few weeks then if emailing goes well and we can talk about a variety of stuff then we can go to the phone. You may not say to someone when you meet them out in public cant talk to you til I get to know you but you do want to get to know them before another date by phone or something at least thats how I do it. You dont want to meet someone right away off of here god knows who they actually are so it depends on personal preferences.

I tend to take more time than most, too. Though there are some I would meet after just a short time. Others, would take much longer.
The truth is ya don't know em till ya can smell em... and even then ya might not know em at all

for me i like a few emails to exchange some basics and i dont do IM at all. its way too different than a live voice. then talk on phone and if goes okay, plan to meet.
not into endless emails but some are more cautious.
sometimes it stops at phone. there was a guy who had a very cool profile and wrote great emails. when we spoke on phone he sounded nuts. really wierd big time.
so i prefer to make it live sooner than later.

Well, in my opinion.. and this is a newly formed one,, I see this as a better way to go through some of the people that I would have met out in a bar. You do not get to see how someone is on the inside first..... at a bar or out somewhere you go only by outward appearance.... I am not saying that is not true when you actually meet someone in person, I am just saying that you have gotten to know them a little before you see them. This is a better way to see how someone is acting before meeting them. If you are out somewhere, you are already with them,, and this way I can rule out a lot of the weirdos before meeting them.

Perhaps it may seem that way but try not lose your positivity. This is just another open door to welcome possibilities in finding a partner. Like the lottery, the odds are tremendous but not impossible. You have to be in it to win it so the adage goes. Enjoy the shopping per say...... You are Mr. Wonderful! That may mean just being a bit more patient or taking the blows of several disappointments. Wherever you find a spark, it may just have been worth all the past sucker punches. I wish you well.........

That's good, sebz. I have had family and friends concerned about my being on a dating site. Their concern is that I might get hooked up with an ax murderer. No, kidding aside, that is a very valid concern. We don't really know who we are "talking" to. Look at Ted Bundy, a very attractive, highly intelligent man. Yet he was a serial killer. The boy next door. So, when we read the forums, it seems that the personalities seem to come out. Some that start out as A-OK suddenly turn on ya. What happened? So it is best to just lay back check out the forums, check out the participants, get involved, maybe, and take a chance. I suggest, tho, like Wolfy did, let people know when you are having a date. That way they can check up on ya.

that is hilarious...i never thot of it that way...at least if you've met them in a bar, you've taken that first step...you know what they look like, how they sound, how they dress, etc...that IS the person...on here, ya nevah know...i haven't met anyone yet in person from here
