I am almost in the nursing profession. i say almost because i do not want to offend. i work for a healthcare seminar company. it is focused on continuing education. my profession is computer programming. I could never do what nurses do.

you are some of the kindest people on earth.

i just went in last week for my tetanus so i could volunteer at the humane society.

i have a FEAR of needles. lets just say it eventually ended well, thanks to the kind nurses that looked after me.

they will be receiving flowers soon

My mom and best friend are nurses. They have been telling me for years that I should go for nursing, but I ran from the idea. It wasnt until after my son was diagnosed with leukemia that I realized I loved the science of the human body. We have come a long way in treating sick people. My son is doing fine, but i didnt work for a year.
I got my Cna and worked in cardiac and applied for nursing school. I got in and my last day is june 26th!! So even though it has been hard (i have felt like giving up a few times)I am very proud of my accomplishment. We had our pinning last friday and I won the academic award!! I am smarter than i thought I was.
I am hoping it is rewarding and easy to get a job.
God bless the nurse

Wow, I just discovered this group! It's amazing to see so many healthcare folks out here. I bet if we added up the years quoted so far we'd be over 1000 years of experience.

I'm an RN who specialized in Oncology Research for way too many years,(35 years) now doing home care ( which I am enjoying) and ortho-neuro research part-time. ( OK.... I really like research, too).

Anyone else out there "down sized" and redirected? I call it the "catch and release " program locally. Would love to hear your thoughts ( if that's on topic).

Thank you!

DM

Thank you, each one for choosing Healthcare, we all depend on each other!I have been an LPN for almost 12 years.Nine of that a nursing home nurse. Can you believe they consider that no experience if you should decide you want to be a traveling nurse? If you are the night charge nurse, you do it all,the assessements, supervising, txs meds,ER nurse and have to make all the nursing judgements? I am a Hospice nurse now, its definitely been a benefit to me to have had the hands on nursing home experience.I love being a Hospice nurse even though it is a tearful experience at times. What is the answer to my calling, being able to relieve some of the pain and suffering of my pts. which relieves the suffering of their families. All I have left to do now is pass those incredible boards and become an R.N. I love the Hospice and nursing humor we could never quit crying or keep up the good work without it!!!!!Quetta.

Have some horror stories, some comedies and some very touching tales stored in my memory. Hope you all take the time to take care of the caregiver. We sometimes lose sight of that and it can become dangerous if we neglect ourselves. Give yourselves a big hug and relax for a bit each day. Huggs, kandy.

I now am a Case Manager at Saint Marys Regional Medical Center in Ark. Everyone said it was an RN only job but I worked to get it. I believe that LPN's have been put at the bottom of the list for jobs which would only go to RN's. So, KOODOOS to us!!!!!!

Do you count social workers? I used to work with incarcerated offenders, specializing in substance abuse rehab. Had health problems, now I am one of the "disabled" lepers nobody likes to talk to as soon as the "D" word comes out. LOL I'm considering making a study out of it. For you nurses, I always loved working with nurses. A friend of mine, a clinical manager, recently told me that back in the days when she was called "head nurse" she had one really *BAD* group of nurses who traditionally gave the "head nurse" two knee pads, the assistant "head nurse" just one knee pad. I know, it took me a minute too -- just think dirty thoughts & you'll get it. Love those nurses, the bawdier the better.

Anyhow, nice to meet all of you.

"Yes" to "any other dentists out there." I'm outside of Philadelphia, have been dentisting for almost 30 years, and it's still fun and very creative. I must have chosen my profession well. I've taught dental school and dental assisting, was a Navy dentist for 3 yrs after school, had my own practice for 14 years, helped develop a holistic practice, have "temped" on an Indian reservation in N Dakota (I advise against being there in February, btw), worked in a prison, and also an exclusive dental "spa" in downtown Philly. I've had patients call my office when a doc w/ the same name as mine was arrested for killing his wife, and treated a convicted murderer while working in prison. Now I'm starting to lecture and develop unique dental software. So, like I said, it's still fun!

Hi! I'm a registered respiratory therapist tech, RN. I started out as a dental asst. but had planned on becoming a vet. Instead went into nursing. When I lost my uncle, I went back and got into respiratory. I've owned my own healthcare company, rode on aubulances, rode on helicoptors (loved), and had to quit work several times to care for a member of my family that was dying. I think my heart lies with either ER or the elderly.

Greeting RNS

I am a masters prepared nurse educator with the VA. I work in one of the CLC's (Community Living Centers). I love my job. Like most nursing jobs it is exhausting. We are in an occupation that is rewarding but face it is hard work. No glamour here. Has anyone been commenting on some of the nursing shows like the one on HBO that shows a smart a nurse who is impaired. Not the image I would like to portray nor does it represent the other 99 percent of us who are honest, ethical and hardworking and dont have time to think about trying to trick the system to abuse drugs or break hospital rules.
What do you think?
Sandy
