I have a HP laptop with a built in wifi. Its a windows 7 witha A8 vision AMD with a Quad Core/AMD Radeon Grapics. Anyways like I was saying, I have a built in wifi and its not working for some stupid a** reason. I tired everything possible to get it to work. I took it to "geek squad" (dumbasses ) and they couldnt fix it. I tried to uninstall then reinstall but still nothing. The ONLY way im getting wifi is by a stupid stick I got from my router that came with it. I DONT want to use that and want my built in wifi not the stick. if I wanted that I would have gotten the lame a** computers that needs it. Can any REAL geek help me with this. I'm going crazy trying to figure this thing out. Oh and i even restored it to factory to see if that was it...sadly it wasnt.

i can fix computers but for some reason i cant seem to find out what the hells wrong with the built in wifi.

Did you check to make sure you didn't turn you wireless networking controller off, some of those have a switch on the front were you can turn it of and on too. Let me know what all you've already done and ill see what I can come up with

1. Uninstalled then reinstalled wifi.
2. Restored to factory settings.
3. Held router button for 10-15 sec.
4. Disconnected connection then reconnected.
5. Hit wifi button off waited 10 seconds then turned back on (my router is weird that way Idk)
6. Tried to connect to a different router.
7. Uninstalled router then reinstalled it back on.

Still nothing.

he says he using a stick. so logic would dictate his router is turned on.

he can test that theory by using his phone's wifi connected to his router. assuming he has a smartphone with wifi and not a dumbphone.

the wifi module itself might be bad. try doing a complete wipe and reinstall of the operating system. if it still down't work. then it's the wifi module. which is probably integrated into the motherboard. meaning a new board would be in order.

Unless it is an ultrabook, odds are it's a pcie mini card, or half mini card... either way, they aren't too much to get a replacement.. on most laptops they're under one of the user serviceable panels. assuming it is out of warranty, and the keyboard toggle, or switch aren't the culprit.

just buy a usb wifi. cheaper and easier then trying to replace a component on the motherboard of your laptop.

if you can't get the drivers load or it's not recognizeable. then the board is going out.

in which you shoulda bought a new laptop BEFORE windows 8 was released 2 days ago. LOL.

did you recently update the driver? if you did, I'd roll back to the old driver.

that actually happened to me. Turns out the driver worked for B & G wifi, which I had at home. But when I went to the mall, library etc and it logged on to N wifi it would BSOD. Which was pretty confusing for awhile. But after a process of elimination I figured out it was the new driver. I rolled it back and everything worked fine...

I found that the driver wasn't fully debugged as the company was consumed by a larger company, and the engineers went off to other projects.

Sounds like we may have the same laptop. I have an HP pavillion dv7 entertainment laptop. Look at your F2 button. make sure the little light is on next to the attenna icon. if that little light is off then you shut down your wifi. so you got to hit the f12 again to turn it on. also if you right click on the wifi icon on the lower right of your screen you can run a troubleshooter.

and my computer is not this dirty just the flash reflects everyting

Replace your nic card. see if that solves it.

also, is your router broadcasting wifi in 802.11 a, b, g, or n frequencies?

what wifi signals can your laptop pick up on? (a, b, g, or n)

if all fails. a usb wifi dongle ain't that bad of a solution.
