Raising two girls as they were growing up I had to constantly revise
my thought process regarding this subject.

When I was a teenager back in the day
Going Steady was Dating you were seeing 1 and only 1 person and no others.
During my daughters days of high school which both are out now ummm let me just say,
Wow! that was a time I never understood what the hell was going on.
So and so is going out with so and so, tonight and then next they are seeing this person or that person tomorrow they were with someone else next week some one different. And all in the Name of Dating. No wonder no one knows what it is any more.

Fast forward to Nowadays in the schools they are doing and expecting so much more from each other. This is crazy to me but it is what it is. Needless to say I am a happy camper that they are out of High School!!!!

Present day you meet some one and you all decide that you only want to see each other in a committed relationship and that is called Dating too!

Holy shit I'm now more confused than I was before I started.
I guess it is what ever the 2, 3, 4, 6, or 8 individuals think it is.

Me I will stick to the term Dating as seeing several ppl and not in a Relationship where the two individuals would be free to see whom ever when ever

When I say I am dating someone that means to me that we are friends getting to know each other and seeing if things are going to go anywhere...We can still talk to other's unless we just want to give the other person all of our time. Otherwise it doesnt actually mean you are with that person and only that person.

Seems like we skipped the whole dating thing and even talking to each other before we "went together?" ! hahahahahahaha!

I'd be someone's girlfriend before our first real conversation but that was like 8th grade HS.

i have to agree with tonya... she is my BIOTCH... it seems we as ppl have forgotten to get to know someone before we commit to that person. if i date i am getting to know them. it is like having friends. you can have more than one friend cant we? dating will determine if me and the woman will be friends a couple or just walk away. i do try to get to know more than one person at a time.

I have no clue what dating is

Date - One time meeting to see if there is chemistry, communication, and the choice to meet again.

Dating - There is chemistry, communication, enjoying spending time with the other person (even if it's going to Walmart for socks) but this is no where near exclusive dating at this point. It is simply the two parties involved being honest with one another, communicating if they are seeing others, still wanting to spend time with each other but unsure of an actual relationship. Relationships aren't just something you decide to have, they grow....

I think this is where most people either commit or walk away....I believe that each of us know ourselves instinctively, however we refuse to listen to our gut instincts because we crave a relationship with others, it's the primal need of life! Some know they are capable to commit to an imperfect other and some know they can't deal with some inperfections in others. Either way the wind blows, you commit or you walk away.

Exclusive Dating - No scheduled number of dates can decide for two people when the exclusive dating point is reached, it just is! If you get to this point, I really don't even agree it's dating anymore because you've committed to being exclusive and a relationship is beginning to blossom....

Then comes marriage, the divorce, the car is repo'd, the taxes are levied and you create a profile on DH!! Vicious cycle!!
