ESPN did a 30 for 30 on this very subject. Sadly there are a lot of athletes who are. and MC Hammer doesn't count. Neither do you Simon.
I find nothing sad about it in 90% of the cases.
Waitresses, Construction workers, cabbies, factory rats, tradesmen, office girls, cooks, janitors, etc. etc.
Tons of us working people go out every day and work our asses to the bone trying to make it in the world.
Some people excell and some get burnt for a myriad of reasons and they don't have a HBO show to whine for the losers.
The difference, most of us are able make decent livings with a fraction of what those athletes mentioned in the earlier post pissed away.
F**k them.

oh i see. just because i'm not in the 30-30 show then i'm not included hey.
well i'll have you know that espn contacted me and wanted my permission to be included in the show. but i wanted a million bucks and they said no. because then i wouldn't be broke...

i gotta agree with ya chris.

anyone ever hear of a basketball player from NJ Named Leslie cason...he played for d*ck vitale in HS and was Vitale's meal ticket to college and then the pros and as you see vitale today but when cason went to drugs where was vitale for cason is my point...if you watch any time you se eviatle he never mentions cason who is now dead...i played against cason and vitale as his HS coach in HS and some years ago a few of us guys were painting the city and ran into cason before he died and when we said hello les he was dying from aids and told us he wasn't Les cason...he even denied that...so he coulda been something and died broke on the streets of NYC...read on just in case you did not know this fact...15 yrs ago

Les Cason, whose overwhelmingly successful basketball career at East Rutherford High School in New Jersey signaled a promise he never came close to achieving, died on Wednesday. He was 43.
Cason died from complications from AIDS at a nursing home in Manhattan, said Rod Malloy, a spokesman for the Bowery Mission in Manhattan, where Cason lived.
Few shooting stars ever flared as brightly as Cason's or burned out as swiftly. As a player for East Rutherford under Coach D*ck Vitale, now a broadcaster, Cason scored 2,871 points, still a Bergen County boys basketball record, and led the school to state titles as a junior and senior in 1971 and 1972.
At 6 feet 9 inches, he was so exceptional as a scorer, rebounder and defender that he was offered scholarships by 320 colleges. He was often compared to Lew Alcindor, the New York City schoolboy who went on to basketball glory at U.C.L.A. and in the National Basketball Association as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
