In my opinion single is not married...divorced is not married....so divorced is single at least that's how I perceive it. Hope that helps

My divorce decree states I was returned to a "single" status (ex was too). We just get the title of divorced to show we have been priviously married (decree dosen't state that though lol) Once your divorce is "final" you are "single" again.

In some states the divorce is not final for 30 days
and other states are different.
This also means people are NOT supposed to get
remarried till afterwards or it may NOT be legal.

i consider myself single though i'm still legally married. i had been with my wife for 15 years before we got married. looking back now, i see that the marriage was just a last ditch effort for my wife to try to convince herself she was still in love with me. it didn't work. two years after the marriage she realized she needed to end the relationship. in a way, our marriage was a step in the process of becoming single.
you can be divorced, but still hold a flame for you're ex. even though you're legally single, if your heart still belongs to your ex-spouse, you're not really single. they say some people are married to their work. whether you can be considered single depends on what you are looking for in a relationship.
single is a state of mind.

I have spoken about the single/divorced thing with quite a few of my female friends. They basically told me that they would rather a 40 year old guy be divorced than single. Because if he is divorced he is atleast partially trained in living with a woman. A 40 year old single guy that has never been married is too much trouble for them to even bother in dealing with.

In my opinion single is not married...divorced is not married....so divorced is single at least that's how I perceive it. Hope that helps
I'm with you on this one. I, personally, think that is the same thing. If you are not recently married, or seperated, you are "single". ~JMO

I have wondered about this for a while now. I was seperated from my wife for quite a while before I finally divorced her. I think I felt guilty for kicking her out after so many years but after reading what a lot of you say on this I think that I will start to consider myself single again.

My divorce decree states I was returned to a "single" status (ex was too). We just get the title of divorced to show we have been priviously married (decree dosen't state that though lol) Once your divorce is "final" you are "single" again.
My divorce decree states "both parties are returned to legally single status"...

I divorced person *is* single. I leave my status as divorced to be upfront with people. I have no reason to hide behind my marital status.

I have been divorced since 1999  and as far as I'm concerned I've been single since then. We were seperated (1992-1999)for 7 years before divorce, but I was still married. Not single then.

In Florida, the papers say you are "single" when the final divorce decree is singned by the judge!!! Thank you judge.....
However, for definition sake I consider myself, divorced. Go figure!

For most it's about 6 years after the judge says you are, that your truly single. untill that time passes most are just playing cheating on the ex.

Divorced? probably only one, but could be another in hiding...**Smile**
I do state that I am divorced so as to not leave any question about whether I have lived 57 years without finding a man that would have me!!!! lol
But, believe me I am reminded that I am very Single every time I take out the trash, wash the car or have dinner alone!!!

I think that the definition of single and divorced do not meet and therefore a divorced is never single from a linguistic term .

I am not yet "divorced"...my hearing isnt for another month...yet my ex and I consider our selves divorced because we both know it is over. I think if the marriage has died, and you are no longer sharing a marital home (or anything else for that matter) than I am single

I agree...sun_shine! I also assumed single meant never married. I am divorced...so that is how I introduce myself. Single can represent a lot less baggage (as some choose to call it). Divorced, to me, does mean a relationship history.

22 seconds after the final decree was filed.
actually it was when my ex removed her rings and threw them at me that the harsh reality sank in,oh God I'm single now,panic set in but I pushed through it then smiled.

Disagree with you badmonkey, that is the moment ICE starts to fill the blood veins. One goes though many fases but I'm sticking with around 6 years not just for myself but for most everyone, yes I shure a few are differat but not most.

Thats easy, I considered myself single the moment that my soon to be ex told me she was seeing another man and was in love with him. Now she is living with him and has the kids during school days but I have them any day they do not have school. She signed a custody agreement to that effect. This was her third affair in three years. Now I am 42 she is 33 and her new boyfriend is a 60yr old DRUNK who lives in a trailer park. I got everything except the tax deductions for our youngest and she signed the agreement. Plus no child support due to equal parenting time and joint physical custody.
My lawyer is not just good he is a Baracuda and she realized he would destroy her if she did not give in.

usually 2 years after divorce if you were the one left with the pieces of your heart broken, this allows enough time for your heart to mend, become more financially secure, so there fore more emotionally secure. when you have stopped thinking about him at all, or only think of him, when it has to do with the kids...
but usually 2 years.
now if you were the one that left, most likely the norm would be one year when the final papers are sent in the male to you, after the judge made the final judgment on your divorce. most people who are the ones that initiate the divorce, have already left the marriage emotionally before they asked for the divorce. so i would say one year, to deal with any emotional and financial fall out.
