So tomorrow I'm getting my first mammogram screening. I'm a nervous wreck, my family has high risk for breast cancer. I'm being proactive in getting tested young.
Any ladies here done the mammogram?

Just had my yearly yesterday, good to go. Some times they repeat tests, usually not always clear shots, no biggy. The point is your going. you can always ask the person who reads your test for results, just for piece of mind. The xrays always get looked over asap.Tell your tec who takes pics, you'd like to talk to the person who views xrays. They will show you the pics.I always insist.

Don't be too concerned.
And, when they call you back for "further testing" it is NORMAL these days!
Try not to be nervous now OR when you get the call back (it's wasted energy - I promise!)
Given your age, EVEN in the worst possible case, you will have GREAT results.

No I have not had one as of yet. That c word scares me. I am however extremely low risk because of how odd my vitamin levels and hormone levels are currently. I have faith. You'll be fine. Don't think of the "maybe"
I have early onset Alzheimer's on both sides of my family. Every time I forget something I wigg out
Side Note: If you are not on the Alzheimer's Disease Boards, get there.
It will dial back in some of that anxiety and there are pre-screenings (happen to be up on the AD world this year).
Remain
BTW: There is such a thing as second hand AD for caregivers or close family members AND you gotta be able to distinguish that from ANY real threats of early onset.

Wow you ladies are so great.
I've been trying since I was young to make sure I don't get any of the cancers that runs in my family. Cervical, skin, colon, breast, overian. I already had my vaccine for hpv but I'm still very careful with it cause it doesn't prevent every type of cervical cancer. Skin well I rarely go out in the sun and if I do I'm covered up, that's why I'm such a light skinned Puerto Rican. In the future I'll check the good old colon lol.

Check your own b00bies and get your mammograms yearly. I had Breast Cancer at age 36. Had surgery, lost hair, 6 months of chemo (with bad side effects) and 7 wks of radiation.
Don't hestitate or wait. A couple mins of pinching your b00bs or suffer pain or even death!

I was nervous for nothing. It didn't even hurt. 10 minutes tops on the machine and getting your boobies fondled.
TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!

Just had mine back on the 23rd. Sort of nervously awaiting the results. They send em in the mail if you are clear and phone if they see any suspicious shadows on the X-rays. I know there is no point in worrying about it but kind of difficult when it does cross my mind.

Yes usually they want to talk to you on the phone so you don't panic. Shadows on the X-ray can be cysts and noncancerous. They don't want to just send a note saying we found something that has to be double checked. That would be kind of heartless.

@ Miss Azazel
Very happy for you! Congrats & keep up the diligence.
If they can fit mine into that machine, anything is possible!
I thought it would be worse. It wasn't so bad. Just a few seconds. Totally worth it.
Yay for you!
Now everyone - GO DO THIS!!!

Thanks, it's always a relief. I did have cysts a couple years back and that's scary so I'm glad those haven't returned.

My aunt on my mom's side had a double mestectomy about 19 years ago. My son was a baby. So I have been getting tested once a year since I was 32. Better safe than sorry. I don't care for the pulling they do to get it in their right but the plates themselves aren't a problem. It's the nipple pinching. Lol
