I get to be a beatnik.
Drawing - Painting - Writing - Sculpting
Pretending I am someone
Refusing to answer the question 'Why do you...?'
Abandoning reasons
Speculation on metaphysical conjectures and their implications for pragmatics.
Planting vegetable gardens (in other people's back alleys)
Sweeping the street in front of your favorite coffee shop.
Feel free to add to this list as a means of providing inspiration to others contemplating the leap.

I babysit my friends two year old at night full time. I walk in the morning after coffee and do a little housework. I work for YMCA empowerment of women and also goodwill volunteering in their clothing department. I soon hope to be working making childrens breakfast and lunches at a local food program and reading to them. I am on oxygen and need to limit the amout of time spent away from home. I will swim daily as soon as our local pool opens in June.

I am just hoping to make it to that age. If the idiots on the road don't take me out first, or my hobby does. But since flying is the safest form of transportation, I think my fate might just lie in the hands of my profession, not my fun.
Would like to go either west or southwest. I have pushed enough snow, and am not looking forward too at least 15 more years of it. But if I have to, so be it.
What really stands out is a phrase I heard. If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

I took up stained glass.
I get to spend time with my horses, Projects on my farm etc.
Collect rocks and sticks. Pick wild berries, canadian wild plums, raspberries and choke cherries ... Basically revert back to being a neanderthal.

I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I walk my dogs when it's not 117 outside. I'm starting a garden. I'm a retired attorney so I've been doing some pro bono work for friends and family members. I date but not as often as I'd like. I go out with my friends once a week and basically do what I want and no one to tell me what to do and when. It's wonderful!

53 years old and retired already? I have to stick around until I am at least 65. Perhaps even longer if the cards don't fall my way.
And with my luck, the card I draw will be the joker.

When I retired I got bored and went back to work. This time I only work when I want and most of the time its on racecars. I date sometimes if I find someone interesting. Most of the time I just do whatever I feel like doing.

well I found a great opportunity to make some money working part time for myself. I work when I want to give me something to do with my time, when grand kid's tire me out. A good friend told me try it out and see how I liked it. It is great when you enjoy helping people. If anybody interested in working with us .let us know. you will be working independently u are your own boss.

Your list sounds remarkably like my pre-retirement life (except sculpting).
I read, write, draw, garden, travel, take long walks, volunteer, have long lunches with friends...I don't expect life will change much when I retire except that I hope to be doing these things much closer to the ocean.

One problem with being single and retired is that you have the time to do things, but find that it's mostly doing yourself. Others either have no interest in getting away from the house except to go shopping (I'm not a shopper) or to babysit grandchildren, and/or on such a limited budget they don't have extra for fun things.
One plus to getting back into the workplace after retirement is that you have the ability to work at something you enjoy instead of the paycheck. You have a lot more freedom because after all "what can they do, fire you".

Anything I want at the pace I want. No more trying to cram things in on days off or having to dump plans because I get called into work. No quitting a project because you have to go to bed to get up for work the next day. Sleeping in is so great; would be better with a mate but actually working on a home I am home to enjoy is rewarding. If I take on a project it is my choice and I can actually do it well. No more being forced to put up with impossible clients, obnoxious co-workers, or commuting when it feels more like you are running the gauntlet of drivers that you wonder even have a license. Being with family and friends when they need me or we want to have fun together. Picking who I have lunch with or even when I feel like lunch is a great luxury. And the quiet. No ringing phones, slamming file drawers, three conversations going on at once. I want to talk to someone and actually hear what they have to say I can with out rushing them out for the next appointment or some one interrupting with "just a quick question?"

It depends on what type of nest egg you are sitting on. If you have money travel internationally. If you have a little bit of money travel domestically. If you are barely getting by get a part time job.
