I think any car with this milage should not have a serious problem. i assume it will be covered under warranty. Any ideas on what it can be. i checked my fluid levels and gas cap already. I am a low milage driver. less than 600 miles a month under normal conditions

honestly head to the nearest autozone and have them read the code. Troubleshooting a new car without any list or idea of symptoms is ludicrous. You give us a code, then we have an answer.

Honestly, go to the steeler, 5 yr 50,000 mile warrentee, federally mandated on emission related repairs. Let them tighten your gas cap.

or that. I won't lie and say I really care which. You have a car with a warranty for a reason. Use it. I paid extra on my F150 so I would have warranty for 100k miles. Inside and out. If it hiccups, they can deal with it. Regardless if I can or wanted to fix it.

Ditto on the dealer. Don't let some idiot with a giant wing on his civic diagnose your car in the auto zone parking lot. Almost guaranteed to get bad information.

fords warrentys suck. I think the basic is 3 years? Kia has a 5 year warrentee and a 10 year on the powertrain and you do not need to pay extra

Fords is 5 years or 60k miles. 100k for body. I paid to cover unlimited miles for the life of the loan.

Do you realize what KIA stands for? Killed In Action.
But seriously, the dealer has to honor the emissions warranty. Most of them follow the 3 year 36000 mileage limits, with some items covered for 8 years, 80000 miles.
Check you owners manual.

Interesting, giving advice when you don't know when your own engine is mechanically shot.

if I have to disconnect the battery does that delete the code?
depends on what kind of car you have.
the "light" may go off, but it is likely stored in the car's history if it's new enough. sometimes it stores partial information to history if battery power is disconnected too.
codes come on for a reason. deleting them, or disconnecting the battery to make them go away, only make it more difficult to actually diagnose later on down the road.
when a technician does a "diagnosis" it is not just code retrieval. they can look back thru the history and a lot of the newer cars will store data surrounding the incident "percent of acceleration, temperature of engine" things like that, that can help a technician figure out what caused it, or at least how to duplicate the concern to do further tests.
you're only making the technician's job harder later on down the line, and costing yourself more money by doing so.

Engine lights are also called "idiot lights". There main purpose is to tell the driver that the computer is still working and is still on the factory setting to tell "automotive challenged" people to have their oil changed...or some such regular maintenance.
