I let someone else use my computer. Yeah I know dumb dumb dumb and now I have a "trojan-backdoor-progdav" Do any of you computer types know what I can do to get rid of it. I have a anti virus as well as a spy sweeper. Both are picking it up but it seems to come right back.

May I suggest that you try the new anti spyware,/ anti virus ***www.VIPRE.com...
I posted an article about it 3 weeks here in this forum.
free 30 day trial.
Light weight program, takes little space and is very
acceptable for my needs. It found a thing or two on my computer, that
another program missed, and also yesterday, it found a trojan
on my friends computer.
She seemed quite happy with it...
Try it, and please tell me what you think about the success.

I've done a little searching around on this one.
Apparently, this one is a couple of years old, but I
did find some advice on how to get rid of it (them)
In a nutshell, the suggestion is to temporarily turn off
the system restore function, reboot into safe mode, update your
virus definitions for your scanner then run your virus
scanner to clean it.
The sites that I found this on are here.

beyond that, I haven't been able to locate any specific removal tools for this.

Is AVG even free for home users anymore? I'm too tired to look it up.. I use Avast, and it's totally free..
Is Avast not one of the best? Come on Wine.. Don't disappoint me

I have posted links to other websites..DH has not blocked them...
they do seem to block M S N or Y A H O O words
when the letters are connected..
you can always leave out the @ symbol...also...dot com..words to that affect.
Please do post the links you may want to share..
thanks,
Wine

I did a search and found the best answer at the same site that Muldoon did, just substitute y a h o o for [blocked] and you can view the "Best Answer" and print it out, but if you're not comfortable with all those steps get a geeky friend who is and let him/her do it for you. I hope this works because some of the other solutions I saw were much more complex and fall under the category of "Do not attempt this unless you're a trained professional"

I agree, after much searching this particular posting had the most logical solution and involved the least risk (to a sophisticated user) of many questionable resources out there. That being said, one must always consider the source, including this forum

penl...
you do good posts, good advice
AVG was still free a month or so back... helped a novice get it..
and I've used Avast, too....
Still, both do the daily update routine and novices especially are hesitant to stop that... after all!!!! the boogie man lurks for the defenseless!!!
I try to control what enters my computer, habd setting controls rather than accepting defaults, running addons on Firefox and Flock and with greasemonkey scripts...
knock on wood...
regular cleaning and registry combing
have not used anti-virus for about 2 years...
would never suggest this to another...
i need a hammer and a bigger piece of wood to knock on!!!
