I go to Hatteras once a year .Duck or Nags Head as much as possible( I live 3 hrs away) mostly because I LOVE to swim in the ocean..so NC natives tell me are there more shark attacks or just more making the news.

Both Ms cajlg and your's is a very good question ..
According to expert Joel Fodrie of UNC's Institute Of Marine Sciences in Morehead City, it's hard to pin point the increase. The attacks have occured from the VA-NC to the SC-NC state lines and are very different environments and water temps. He also said the sharks are around 3-5 feet long (young) and are very skittish around anything a human is likely to do in the water. All of the attacks have occured in waist deep water where the young sharks come to feed and find a mate. Fodrie said there are around 50 species of sharks along the NC coast and all of them are primitive eating machines but your chance of being attacked is very small.
Thankfully no attacks have happened around my favorite swimming, surfing and fishing spot, Ocracoke Island...
Enjoy the Salt Life Ms cajlg, just use caution.....

Thanks!
You're Welcome Ms cajlg ..
However, just when I thought Ocracoke Island was safe, a shark attack happened today around 12:30 PM. According to the National Park Service, a 68 year old man was swimming in shallow water and was bitten on his arms and legs right in front of the Life Savers View. He was able to make it to shore where medical personal attended to him and was reported to be in good condition.
Marine Scientist are searching for a clue as to why the elevated number of attacks are happening but say your chance of a shark biting you are slim.
Myself like you, enjoy the salt water but I'am rethinking how often I'll be in it this year. ... ........
I guess I'll change my fishing tackle from Tuna to Sharks and see what I catch! ..

Please becareful who you speak to and or listen to. The 1 playing the proper gentleman has been stalking me has stalked at least 2 others in the past and 1 other now. He has also got at least 3 other profiles 2 of which are women that only stick up for him. He has an arrest record as long as my legs and I'm tall. 1 of his "alters" has even wished death on me and at least 1 other.
Again Please be careful.

From what I understand, the waters warmed prematurely this summer and the while food chain moved in closer sooner, which threw the cycle off kilter.
