Juan Marichal pitched a complete game 16 inning shutout in 1963. To this, it is but to ponder whether it is more impressive to pitch 9 inning perfect game or, yes, a 16 inning shutout.

seems to me that a guy named Harvey Haddix pitched a gem deep into extra innings in the late '50's.......for the Pirates vs. the Braves. Would that have been Lew Burdette on the mound for the Braves? And a Joe Adc*ck hit destroyed Haddix's perfecto.
Am I close to remembering that correctly?

I think Don Larson's perfect game in the World Series remains very safe.

The one pitching performance that stands out for me is Hirshiser in 88.
That was incredible.

in '59 Pirate pitcher Vern Law went 18-1. this record still stands for the highest winning
percentage of all time.
Plus in '58 he won his last 5 decisions.
