Help:

laptop: Windows XP PRO
running IE V 8 BETA as of today.

Unknown how long this problem exists:

REg Cure program operating: Paid version used for years.

Does a scan and reports that system restore has been turned off.

I go to MY COMPUTER: right click, and look at system restore..
it has an open box next to turn off sys. restore...so I have to assume
it is not turned off.

If I check that box, it asks if I am sure I want to turn off SYS RES.

I am now logging off...and retrying again...
What has my sys restore turned off,
that fools the MY COMPUTER tab???, when it is not really turned off,
I would think Windows might know better than other programs..
if it was turned off.

hummm.

It could be that the program is misreading the registry if it's an XP version running on Vista.

Running betaware is asking for trouble IMO. Could be the IE Beta messed up something in your registry too.

VISTA has not been installed on this Toshiba
laptop...it is not powerful enough
to accomplish anything, barely handles Windows XP PRO.
Fans run all the time, very HOT...have replaced the mother board, BIOS,
hard drive, heat sync, and on and on...the optical drive needs replaced now.
Waiting for the return DHL shipping box for extended warranty...

It is a P -4 and max ram is 1 GIG available. Installed that.

This is like a test pig machine...I like to play with things on the laptop...
nothing precious on it...I just want to run it well enough to surf
mail, while sitting in bed...but it is VERY slow now...dragging butt!

I suspect somekind of a trojan or virus, actually.

IE 8 version, anyone having any luck with it, on a test pig?

wow, great instructions..
I will try the detailed fix you have suggested.
Thank you very much for the details. I have the laptop in safe mode
at this time, as it is congested upon start up. Stalls at boot up window.

I will report back later...

RE: FIREFOX....installing 3.03 is also a disaster..it is very unstable.
Crashes. What a huge disappointment in Firefox developement, for most of us,
at least the people I have talked to.

Go to add and remove programs thru your control panel and remove IE8
It's worse than IE7 - it's a hog. Once you remove that, it will automatically
roll back to IE6 which is very sufficent..

...........................................................................
My add/remove programs does not show IE v8 for removal.

I did further checking, and found page where is said to go to ELEVATED (forgot word)
and type in /paste a LONG FILE. I did that in the RUN window (pasted) and it
could not find the FOR FILES.

Suggestions for removing IE v8?

Karen
back to the detailed instructions herewith..again thanks.

thank you for the TECHIE web link!!!!!!!!
That program really cleaned up the test pig laptop....
it found some nasty stuff!
GONE now...

add/remove programs still does not reveal IE version 8 BETA.

I will try to work back and find that page that talked about it
not showing up in the add/remove list...and to copy/paste a file.

How do we insert a (link) into this DH page? I know plane jumperinserted some links last week.

Thanks,
laptop almost recovered.
