Upon steady request from Darlenemi51, we have taken a moment from our day to respond to her and the other people current involved "Winesong" and "Geoff", as well as those giving her tech support through this online Forum.

To start, we would like to fill some of you in on the '5 hours of Diagnosis'..

Darlene was informed the evening that she first made contact with our company that we have an onsite minimum charge that start from the time we leave our facility until the time we return, as well that this was an un-negotiable surcharge.

Upon arriving to the site, we were firstly informed that the case had a fracture in plexiglas side panel. Despite the cosmetic damage to the chassis of this machine, it still posts. The first problem to be addressed was the lack of driver to the PCI Modem. With no high-speed connection available at the location, and inadequate wireless capability. We LEFT the location, taking a trip into town to the closest available location with a stable internet connection so we could download the proper drivers and return the same day. At this time no additional evidence has surfaced to show there being any problem with a DOA or Faulty hardware unit.

After installing the proper modem driver to match the hardware, a standard reboot was done, which after the system would no longer post. After a hard-shutdown and reboot the system posted once again as it should, While working to remedy the next problem which was with the Soundcard, reboots from this procedure once again was accompanied with several attempts to get the PC to post after the reboot. Of which several times as Darlene can recall, the system emitting a system failure alert.

We informed Darlene that the system could have a fracture on its main system board, but in no way did we imply or state that we seen this possible problem, just that it could be an underlying cause.

We have taken notice to several people here claiming that the Asus P4S800D-E is a very common board. To find this Socket 478 Mainboard in an un-used condition has evaded us thus far, I personally have made contact with my representative from Asus who has informed me this board is no longer supported as a streamline board from their corporation. We are not un-humble people, but merely having a difficult time locating this board, and would love to see someone produce a location of an un-used board for purchase.

We have provided Darlene with three different options and quotes for replacement, repair, and reconstruction. Currently the 'ball is in her court'. And in response to the idea of finding another 'cheaper' board to put into this machine, We would like to take a brief second to inform you that after the Windows 2000 OS was released, the ability to swap a mainboard without the exact same chipset as the previous unit used to install the Windows OS is no longer an option. To put a different motherboard that does not have the same chipset will require Data Loss (Or recovery should the situation permit) and a reinstallation of the previous Operating System. This route is one of the MORE expensive ones we have provided her with as she does not have the copy of windows that was used when this machine was built as well does not have the physical license key present with the machine, making the copy of windows an illegal copy to reinstall unless said articles are provided.

In closing, our 'Diagnosis' was not just a 'Diagnosis' but as well was repair work. Hope this clears up any questions/comments anyone may have that continue to lean toward a negative side, We will be glad to help with or answer any questions that you may have and look forward to 'Geoff' placing that return phone call that we have been waiting on for nearly a week now.

so i did a quick google of p4s800d and found a couple of the -x ones real quick. without crossleveling specs i would think the chips would probably be close enough to take. one listed for $80 http://www.gracetech.us/61.html and one for $130 http://www.pcplanetsystems.com/abc/product_details.php?category_id=115&item_id=665
tell the tech to verify the chipsets on them and see if they would work. you can have minor variations and it not blue screen loop on you.

I can only ask for the 5th time,
did you get a check from UPS to cover the damage of
the unit? What is the status of the claim?
It was insured for $700.00. I have pictures of
it prior to sending it, showing it in perfect repair.

I have not heard from UPS, as I am the shipper of the item.
I have to ask....why not just get a new unit...?
