 I have 3 computers in my home and only one is wireless. I have one desktop connected to the cable modem and had no trouble getting the wireless laptop connected using a Netgear router.

I want to get the other desktop connected. What do I do? I need to find the easiest and least costly way. And what connecting cord/cable/line to buy? What is the name to look for when searching for one for I need about 25 feet?

I have some computer knowledge but when it came to this type of thing my ex took care of it.
So please if you could help me would appreciate it. Thanks so much.

 you have a choice to make, you can either buy an ethernet cable or a usb wireless card. cable is cheaper but wireless card is easier if in a different room. if you go wireless run the cd first and it will walk you through it. if you go wired it will be just like settign up your first desktop.

 I bought the Cat 5 ethernet cable and hooked it to a lan port and my 2 desktop but it still won't connect.
I went through the wizard explorer to setup the connection through the lan and it says still says offline
Any suggestions now?? Thanks

 on the desktop that will get on the internet go to control panel, network and internet connections, network connections, then right click on the LAN, left click on the properties, left click internet protocol, left click properties. what is bubbled in?
do the same for the other computer

 that was for xp, i did not realize you are running 2000

Right click My Network Places and then Properties
Right click Local Area Connections and then Properties
In the Properties window, choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties

what is bubbled in on that page?

easiest thing would actually be to call your Internet Service Provider and let them know that you are running a router and trying to configure a new computer to your network and need walked through because they can tell you exactly what it should look like without going back and forth through email. i can help you but it will take a little longer than calling them cause i aint in front of the computer.
