Every day I must get 50 spam emails telling me how to get rich from some quack home business.

Has anybody started any legitimate home business that has proven to be at all profitable?

I an not seeking solicitations; I get enough of those every time I visit my In box. I'm just curious what others are doing to supplement their income.

Not unless it provides an affordable service that real people can use, otherwise you're just a part time employee working from home. Also, most folks never realize how demanding self-employment can be until their lives depend on it, and that's why the vast majority fails.

I would say service or product. We need more products in the states.

The easiest most legit ones almost anyone can do is customer service calls. You get a headset and answer calls and read a script or something. Ive never done this, but heard through the grapevine of a few who has. I heard some are strict to get hired, and say you must be able to keep the background noise low etc. Do your research on these and read alot of sites that talk about the best ones. Never trust the info from just one place.

Also some people use Onforce for technical jobs. You dont pay them anything to get started and get listed as an oncall technician for whatever service etc. They make money by taking a percentage of what you earn if they end up getting you a service call you go on. You can list your own rate etc also. I think you can set it up for a phone text message of when you have a service call.

I hope you find what you are lookin for.

Yes, I do one for a living. It's called Primerica. There isnn't a huge fee to get in. You train and become a financial advisor and can make a lot of money. Over half the business owners are housewifes. Look it up.

I work from home, but also make calls on clients, when needed. I am a Web Developer. The actual work is all done from my home, but there is considerable calling on clients, as well as trying to hustle new business.

I have a cleaning business. I work out of my home and travel to peoples homes. But I am in the Reno-Tahoe area. People who come out here come to play and have fun. It is a unique place and seasonal work, but it does produce an income.

I started my business on the weekends on the side while I worked for another job. Eventually I had to quit the other job to do my own business.

Being self-employed is hard work and time consuming. This is not for everyone. Most people who start their own business fail within the first 5 years. Unless you know how to run a business and turn a buck, you will not make it.

There are quite a few viable home based businesses out there in the Network Marketing arena. Unfortunately, there are many not so good ones. Now for the variables:
The Company (has it been around more than 4 years - what is the reputation)
The Management team of the company (this will demonstrate if they will still be around)
The Product/s (is it a niche product and is it in demand and easy to sell)
The Person bringing you into the business (very importnat)
The Team you are joining - the people above your sponsor
The Training the company offers
The training your team offers\
Is the business simple to duplicate?
How is the Compensation Plan?
What is the future plan of growth with the company?

And take into account that 3% are making most of the money in Network Marketing companies and rightly so. Is that any different than Home Depot, Microsoft, Walmart, etc. What I love about Network Marketing is that you have a fair chance to be one of the 3%. You just have to be teachable and treat it as a business both in money and in time!

These are some of the variables to consider before you jump into any Network Marketing Opportunity. I had no belief in Network Marketing 5 years ago - I was a GM for a local home builder. I enrolled just because of the product. Then I went from GM to VP of a local mortgage company making more money, working less so I could focus more time with my new Network Marketing business. I then resigned my VP role last year. Now I have three Network Marketing companies that I represent as a Distributor. I have found that people like choices and I love multiple income streams. And as of today I spend less than 20 hours a week on my three businesses and more of my time on my book due to come out at the end of 2009 on Why people Succeed or Fail in Network Marketing.

That is a bit about what I have to say on the topic. I am not trying to recruit anyone, as I do not have to do that anymore. However, I will not turn down the opportunity to Mentor high caliber people that are willing to do whatever it takes for a few years so that they can spend the rest of their lives doing what they want like I do. No matter what state you are in - it doesn't matter that I am in AZ and you may not be.

Hope this helps.
