My guy's middle name is Ryoji, which means "luck" in Japanese. Why not pick a name that means something
special to you? I like Alexander, Oliver, Arthur as names. My father's name was Arthur. For a woman, I like
Rosemarie or Elizabeth or Ruth. My mother's name was Marguerite. Do you have someone in your life you have
loved or who has taught you much? Maybe take the name of that person. My aunt has an unusual name, her
mother used the letters of her best friends, H, A, E, B, C and combined them to make her name, No one else
has that name!

My new grandbaby's name is Ryland Cash and they call him Cash. It's unique and my daughter is your age. She also wanted to name him after Robin Thicke. Good Luck!!

I know you're young and naming babies with unique names might sound neat. However, remember that child we'll have to live with the name you choose. I once read an article or book titled "What's in a Name." It had a lot of good points. Even though I name may sound cute to you, it may open up teasing to them later. For females it has been proven that cute names don't do well for them in the business world. If the name given has a common nickname associated with it, this also could create problems. Having a unique name may lend toward an unforgettable name, but this could also cause problems down the road with proper spelling or the fact that they are remembered as the kid with an unusual name that no one could pronounce or spell. Also, careful of what the initials spell.

Just a few suggestions. I took the time to name both my children (daughters). Their names have actually opened doors of opportunity for them. The names were not unique but very positive in society. They were flexible names that could grow with them and on paper provide them with respect.

76 makes some good points. This is my motto....what looks good on a business card will be good in life. I recently gave this advice to my son's friends who were having a baby. They wanted to name the baby a name that was really a nickname. I told them that when their child had graduated from law school or med school, what would the business card or the sign on the wall read.... "Dr. Butch" or "Ms. Honeypie at Law".... Don't do it! Stick with solid, strong names or names that hold true to your family geneology.

Good luck and God bless to you and your baby's health!

I like more classic traditional names but I also like a trendy name paired with a traditional name so your middle names are good for a nice trendy/unique first name. Like I named my son Matthew Jaiden. Something sweet and classic with something more fun and trendy. Think of the baby's heritage. My son is mixed with black, Mexican, and white so I wanted something that would kind of reflect that. I was going to go with Jaiden depending on his skin tone and how he looked. I really like Jaiden but Matthew just fit him better.

are there certain letters you like? I really liked the combo of of an M name with Jaiden. My son was going to be Jaiden Michael but things happened so the name was just switched.

If there's certain meanings or attributes you're looking for there's different sites you can look on for baby names. Like babynames.com. I have a list there of names I like.

The one thing I ask is that you make sure it can grow with the child and that it looks good on paper and sounds good when said out loud.

But the more "unique" names I like are Asher, Gage, and Kyler. I don't know the last name but I think Kyler Ryan is really cute.

When I picked out the names for babies, I used a combination of the names of people who deeply affected my life for the girl's name (Marielaina Josephina) and for the boy, I was going with my dad's side of the family (Italian) tradition, and would have named him after my dad (Frank Carlo)

But, as others have said, make sure the name can grow with them, and will make sense to them later on.... I once worked with a girl named Mysti, and another who was Misty Storm. Needless to say, both were teased mercilessly....

And of course watch the initials... you don't want to set the baby up for torture there either...

Now growing up named after my grandmother (Agnes) wasn't easy, but as I got older, I kind of grew into it, and after my grandmother passed away, I took great pride in carrying on the name.

Just my two cents

I have taught elementary school for 34 years and have heard LOTS of names! It is so much easier on everyone if the name is rather common and easy to spell. In my years I have only taught one Jill, one Susan, one Linda, and I could go on. Lots of people choose a name because they think it is different and then it ends up that there are lots of people with that name. We have gone through that with names such as Josh, Jason, Hannah, Emily, etc. I have also noticed that calling a child by their middle name or a nickname causes problems with report cards, class roles, mail, etc. My mother always told me to put the word "aunt" or "uncle" in front of the name to see how it would sound when the person is older. Good luck1!

Boys names I've always liked are Spencer, Michael, Nicholas, Tyler or Damien.

Girls names I like, Heidi, Naomi, Melanie, Chelsea or Dana.

Something I just wanna say... You said that you wanted something unique. I just wanted to mention a word of warning about unique names. I don't think it's good to go too unique, if you catch my drift. I'm sure you've noticed the more than weird names of celebrity children, like Apple or Moxie CrimeFighter. Those are extreme cases, but beware of names that may sound cool to you, but may not be real names, or very archaic names, or things like that. Also, making up new spellings for old names? That isn't really a good idea either. Remember, your kid is going to have this name for the rest of their life. So, what might have a good ring to you, might have your kid getting picked on in school. What might look aesthetically pleasing to you, might just end up being a lifetime of explaining and re-explaining that your kid will have do to. Just something to keep in mind. ^^

Good old fashioned names are now "unique"! I like Miriam for a girl and Paul for a boy. Try to imagine the person
grown and in an adult life. Childhood only lasts a few years, and those cute names don't sound so cute when
the person is 30 or 40.

I like to change the spelling of the name to make it unique...for instance, my daughter's name is Morgyn Kayleigh. I figured replacing the a with y would make it look more feminine since Morgan can be male or female. On the other hand, my son, Logan Maxwell, was named after a tv show cuz that's the only thing my ex and I could agree on. I wanted to name my daughter Lana Morgyn so that she would have the same initials as her brother but he vetoed the suggestion cuz he didn't want both kids named after a tv show and I had gotten the name Lana from Smallville. Still like the name though.

If you want really unique names then I would suggest taking a look at video game characters. I like Kairi from Kingdom Hearts but it was just a little too other for me.

I think you should consider what the name means also, there are plenty of books/websites that can tell you what a name means. But not just in the description of a name, also the idea of naming your child after someone is appealing. "The finest form of flattery is imitation"
I named my oldest son after my grandfather, Bruce Robert. A strong name-in description and in remembrance of a strong man!
My youngest I named Marc Carl, Marc for marking the passage of time, and Carl after his paternal grandfather, who is a kind, caring, and compassionate man with conservative values.
So, take time in considering a name, you have time, as you are still early in your pregnancy. Make the name stand for something or someone you value and admire!
Just my thoughts!

Sometimes biblical names can be sweet, especially if you have a reason for it. I named my second born after the two Arcangels of God, Michael and Gabrial. Why, because he was a miracle, and those angels were the messenger of God for the Miracle of John the Baptist and Jesus. My third born is named after the book of Mark, and his Grandfather, Carl. Both of which have a personal meaning.
Good luck in choosing names, I see we had plenty of great responses! I'll pray for God's guiding hand in your choice!

When you are deciding on a baby name...unique is great... but try not to get TOO far out there... some posters have mentioned that certain names can lead to teasing for the child later on in life, this is true.
Working in medical records for a large clinic... I've seen some DOOZERS! I just think.. c'mon WHY would you name your poor child that! One thing that bothers me these days, as well, that I have seen with parents that are my generation, is not so much the names, but how.. in an effort to be unique... parents are spelling COMMON names in UNCOMMON ways i.e. "Kayla" becomes "Kaeyla" or "Jason" to "Jaeson" can you honestly look at a name like that and pronouce it correctly... I've also seen names like Liberty, America, Princess, Peace, Joy, Happiness, Love and even a Unique (yes, it's true)... etc.. etc... these kids will have to WRITE these names, and tell OTHER kids who may turn and tease them their names, and people will have to be able to spell them (very hard to sound some names out as it is, especially over the phone)... so choose wisely... and good luck with your beautiful child!

*Voice of dealing with names on a daily basis*

I named my kids Joseph and Aralyn "LynLyn" for short.
