I want to make rosewater for cooking and thought of doing candied rose petals also. (It's Spring this coming Saturday and it's appropriate.) However, all the roses I've ever bought (plants or cut) have warned against eating them. I'm guessing it's because they haven't been cultivated for consumption.
Where does one go to find edible fresh roses? Dried rose petals don't make as good of a rose water by far. Is there anywhere in the U.S. where they grow roses for consumption? I imagine that's more of a middle-eastern thing.
Thank you.

Hi, my local independent supermarket sells "edible flowers" in season and bottled rosewater as well. It is used for
flavoring in cookies and other dished. It would seem that any non sprayed petals could be used....

That's what I kind of figured. In a couple years I'll have my own roses, organically grown, but the bushes are still small. I need to make some rose water for the upcoming Equinox though. My local stores don't have what they term edible flowers (I'm sure some of their flowers are edible, they're just not labeled that way) nor have I seen rose water there (I know it's sold somewhere, just not around here) but it's better to make my own anyway.
I think I'm just gonna have to ask at a florist or maybe at one of the health-food stores.
What I want to make is rose pancakes and rose cookies with the water.
Thanks for the info.

Edible Fresh Roses or most any flower pedal can be purchased at one of the FOOD SERVICE Suppliers in your area.
Many flowers are edible.... and Food Servie Distributors sell them. Usually you do not need a account to buy them there. Just tell them you want to order them and will pay for them when you pick them up.
Hope that helped.

Hmm. Not sure if there's one around here. Perhaps the next county over. I'll ask some friends with restaurants around here as they'd probably know. Thanks.
