cactusbaby Fredonia, TX 79, joined Jul. 2009	Great place, Danny. Can I get a frosted 7-UP ? When I was a teenager, the malt shop was usually in a drug store. I loved the place my friends and I went to. In case you are not familiar with it, a frosted 7-UP is 7-U poured over vanilla icecream in a tall glass. Lovely thing in a hot Florida summer. Those Frosted A@W root beers, too. Back then we had rootbeer stands and they served the rootbeer in mugs kept in the freezer. they always had ice floating in the rootbeer. . I sure met a lot of girls there. The place I went to was called the Dairy Bar. Had juke boxes in the booths. ssspecial Claremont, NC 74, joined Jan. 2008	Hi ......I am one of those chicks that used to go to Bandstand when I was 15. Back then we had a drink called a Wizz Bang , made just like an ice cream soda, but without the ice cream. another one was called a Rickie, and had crushed ice with differant flavors like orange, lemon, lime, and grape or strawberry,with soda water, and served in a tall slim frosted glass, with a cherry on the straw. Coming from Pennsylvania around Philly, we had a sub sandwich called "Zeps". I guess that is the only place that they had that name for one. We used to go to the Steel Pier at the New Jersey shore and see the Diving Horse. One great show.... and white buck shoes that were called Flagg Flyers. They had a flap that closed them instead of tying laces. Cool shoes....Well I have the muscle car, so lets go and have fun in it. Maybe do a jitter bug....or the Mashed Potato....or even the Twist.........great fun to all..........Betty

Got to do the warmup and break music when Marty Robbins came to town. The most moral and kind man I can imagine. He made it his job to "take care " of me during the big break. With women throwing themselves at him, he remained polite , but told them how much he loved his wife and family. Wouldn't let me go back stage and be with the "rowdies" as he called them. "You just stay out here with me". I've loved that man ever since and hearing his music still makes me teary. I think I need a malted to drown my sorrows. Make that a double, Danny. sniff

Here is a poem I wrote about my childhood and growing up in a different time. A CHILDS TIME OF INNOCENCE My thoughts go back in the pages of time, When the woods was my playground. And every hill had to be climbed. God made the universe just for me, It was a time of innocence, a time to be free. I was awed at the birds, as they sang their song, And marveled at the creek so winding and long. I would swim in the stream after a hot sweaty day, It was a time of innocence, a time to play. I looked at the stars, shinning down from above, And wondered in awe at God’s unending love. It was His creation, so sweet and serene, It was a time of innocence, given by Him. Time has gone, so swiftly by, I look to my God, and I ask him why? What happened to that innocence, that was supposed to last? Why has it become a thing of the past? The innocence of this world, is gone today, Every one does things, their own way. Come Lord Jesus, free the world from it’s sin, Restore the time of innocence again. “Unless you have the faith of a little child, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
