This was supposed to have been fixed, at least the major cause of it. They are still prone to the red ring of death, but now supposedly it's more from overheating instead of the original fubar design.
Make sure you keep it cool and well ventilated.

Cam, call Microsoft's Tech Support. If it's still under warranty, they'll fix it for free.
If not, then they might charge you to fix it. Good Luck.

I don't own an X-Box 360 but as a Electronic Sales Associate at my local Walmart, I can say I sell about 2 X-Box a day to customers who need to replace theirs. I can always tell because they do not buy a new game. However as of late I have have more customers now buying a PS3 slim as their replacement and haven't had many returns so far. I love my PS3 for sure but I am also a guy who does not like games like Halo or Gears of War (though I agree they are good games, just not my games).

sorry to burst any bubbles, but you all should have went with the ps3. the 360 is the largest production piece of garbage money can buy. i own both, ps3 and 360. i rarely play the 360 cause the hard drive is crapping out. i've only had it about six months and it's not because i don't take care of my belongings. i still have an original nintendo still in the box, and an atari, and a sega saturn, and on and on... anyways, the point is. microsoft held on to about 4billion dollars for return repairs and have exceeded their budget. ps3 has no more than a two percent failure rate. scales are kinda tipped here guys.
you can argue till your face turns blue i don't care. one of my best friends owns a play-n-trade game store. i've seen way too many 360's that needed repair, plus way too many that are non-repairable.

If you bought an early release the warranty was extended FOREVER because of a design flaw. CALL MS. Ours was 3 years old when it was replaced for FREE.

This is correct.
About 6 months or so ago Microshit basically owned up to a major design flaw in the 360 and supposedly corrected it. If your model is one of the older models with this major flaw you can get your shit fixed for free even if out of warranty. As long as you didn't mod it or anything.

You should pick up a newer one, the rates of ring of deaths have gone down now you just have to worry about the E74 Errors.

My brother had his 360 die on him a few weeks ago, so he made use of his warranty, got another and sold it to a friend. Then he went out and bought a PS3 instead.

See this is why I don't want an Xbox 360. I've read online all about the RROD and how Xbox 360 is "the most unreliable console ever." You're better off with a PS3 or a Wii. At least the failure rates on them are nowhere near as high. Microsoft doesn't know how to make consoles.

I am a repair tech at a video game store. Both ps3 and xbox360 have the same problem but ps3 is more durable compared to the xbox 360 because the bga overheating and the solder resetting. Ps3 has the yellow light of death meaning either power supply is bad or the motherboard overheated. Most of the time it is the motherboard. The xbox 360 is a pain in the butt to mess with to begin with repairing. Best bet with repairing the xbox 360 is sending it into microsoft for them to deal with it...meaning they replace the motherboard or replaceing the entire system...which is better than a headache.

I don't have an xbox360, but I just tripped and dropped my wii a few days ago and now I always get a freakin red screen saying it can't read my GH: Van Halen disc and so now I have to replace it when I just GOT it this week. lol
Obviously not as big of a pain as what you refer to though unless I find out later it's the wii instead of the game causing it.

had mine for three years. bought it second hand. never dusted it. never cleaned it. played it constantly. never had a problem with it. my mate's one broke down within a week. just blind luck with the older models. when the ps3 comes down in price i'll get one of them too. Uncharted looks sweet.

XBOX SUCKS the game store said the red ring is normal
I bought my two (2) XB360s five years ago on launch day, (November of 2005). Both systems have over 2000 hours on them. They have been mounted horizontally and vertically, (more often vertically). They have not been 'babied'. They have been handled with same 'normal' care you would handle any other type of electronics. Neither of them have ever had a single problem. Never had a red ring of any type. Only quick, reliable, solid performance. Probably one of the very best video game systems I have ever owned.

Ok this is easy. I had one of the 360s in the origional batch when they first came out and NEVER got the red ring. It has to do with the hardware but also how you take care of it. I have a new xbox the only reason is no I didn't get the red ring like you think it just merely wouldn't turn on anymore. Microsoft did fix the problem despite what people think. Buy a new one they have a Jasper drive in them. Why red rings still happen Microsoft won't put jaspers in refurbished models they replace them with origionals. But brand new xboxs have the Jasper. Ok next if you would like a website or phone number I have a place in NY they do 1 week turn arounds fix any problems red ring or otherwise permanantly and it's cheaper you want the info xbox owners email me on the site and I'll be more than happy to give you the info
