Me and my girlfriend filled up some new beds this weekend - I would guess 40 wheelbarrels full or so - Boy was it hard keeping up with her ( she is something else) - But anyways - we planted brussell sprouts, brocolli and califlower - Looking forward to the rewards in about 75 days or so - Hope all is doing ok on yalls ( Texan here) fall gardens also - What you got going ??

I am more into landscape gardening, but also have a veggie plot. Getting it ready for spinach, lettuce, winter greens.
Lots of tangerines on the tangerine trees.

It doesn't have to be all that hard. Life got a lot easier when I started using raised beds and planting very densely. The denser your planting, the less room for weeds.
Google "Square Foot Gardening".

That sounds like a fairyland to me when you describe your garden / green space. Big sigh.

I too have just started doing that. Along with companion gardening. Neat, eh?

I don't know what zone you are in but Alberta should have a decent growing season. You can just make compost all winter if it's freezing. Then in the spring, your beds will be black and rich. I started doing this when I lived in the BC Rockies. Dig down two inches in that yard and you hit solid igneous rock.
My garden in Texas is the opposite, it's all sand. So much easier to just improve the soil in the beds as opposed to a large farm-style row planting.
I'll put potatoes and corn in the ground in rows, but the luxury veggies get TLC.
