I like to collect old computers and parts at garage sales then try to make the darn things work like they are supposed to.

I have an old IBM Compaq 386sx under my bed,
I look the monitor off when my old computer monitor died and cannibalized the mouse as well.
but it still works, has a copy of Win3.11 still on it but I never use the thing anymore.
Last I remember it had a 250ish hard drive and 33 MHz processor,
My old new computer is 12 gig drive, 433 Mhz,
and My New New computer is 310 gig, dual 1.6 GHz,

I've been meaning to do something with the 386, can't give it away, nobody would want it,
Maybe a collector would buy it off Ebay but I'm sure they shipping cost would be more than the computer would be worth.

I just tore apart 15 old computers. I kept the most of the internals, though, but scrapped all the old Mac stuff. I saw a show on TV about a company that reclaims all the gold from circuit boards and plugs, so I kept all of them, too. I have 2 complete old IBM's, a PS1 type 2121 ans a PS2 Model 8525. Probably ebay stuff, too.

If you're into gathering up old computers and peripherals I suggest you look for a freecycle group in your area. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer.

I have given away so much computer and stereo stuff that I probably would have just thrown away. And the sweet thing about freecycle is that people give away the darndest things. Furniture, cars, you name it.

goto www.freecycle.org to find a group near you.

Freecycle is great. I moved out a computer desk that I bought at Kmart in 1978 for $60 a couple of week ago.

The lady needed it for her K12 aged son so he could do schoolwork. He loves it!

I just got a REALLY cool new Brother MFC 9840CDW printer. So NOW I can finally give away my Princeton 9600 baud color scanner, cost $1200 in 1985, and can scan a 4x6 color print in only three minutes!

I also have a Brother LaserFAX that is sitting around here.. The lady that contacted me from Freecycle is a Youth Minister at her church and needs a FAX for her home office.

It's really a lot of fun getting to help folks out, and at the same time move equipment out, that wouldn't bring enough money to be worth messing with eBay, but would still be useful for someone local that wants to drive by and pick it up!

Wow!! I can't believe I've found someone who does as odd things as I do. My first computer, and I use that term lightly, was a Commodor64, then got a 128 with printer, that I still have. I am really into older macs. I love those machines and making them work. Presently in my office, I have four pc's not including the one I'm using, 2 mac G3s and three Mac g4s. Also have a mac notebook. Lovely thing, the bronze model, also a g3. I'm so glad to meet you guys and gals.

I just ordered a cd from ebay that's supposed to fix HD and computer file problems. Anybody know about this? Says it will "fix or repair any hd or computer" and works with all os, including Mac.
