So the question is are all sins equal in the eye of the Lord?
I thought this would make a good topic. I am curious to see what everyone's take is on it.
I myself don't believe that all sins are equal in the eyes of the Lord. I find it hard to believe that HE can be that narrow minded (HE's perfect and perfection isn't narrow minded). Yes, I know that each sin is wrong, but I would think that HE would damn you quicker for one sin more so then another. I hope that makes some sort of sense...JMO... for what its worth.

Hi LadyK...

Sin is sin....
folowing the evil of this world...
unrepentant folowing of evil is sin

embraced sin leads to iniquity....
and that ain't good...
that won't get you anywhere...
except nowhere...

and as far as Heaven is concerned
nowhere ain't Heaven!

Hi Lady,

When I have a question like that, I turn to the bible for the answer. turning to our fellow man can have eternal results... (No offense to anyone)

Romans 3:9-23

All People Are Sinners
9 Well then, should we conclude that we Jews are better than others? No, not at all, for we have already shown that all people, whether Jews or Gentiles,[a] are under the power of sin. 10 As the Scriptures say,
“No one is righteous—
not even one.
11 No one is truly wise;
no one is seeking God.
12 All have turned away;
all have become useless.
No one does good,
not a single one.”
13 “Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave.
Their tongues are filled with lies.”
“Snake venom drips from their lips.”
14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
15 “They rush to commit murder.
16 Destruction and misery always follow them.
17 They don’t know where to find peace.”
18 “They have no fear of God at all.”

19 Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. 20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.

Christ Took Our Punishment
21 But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.
23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

God knows our shortcomings and weeknesses. He will allways seek us out. Our sins keep us from him and we die for our sins. We can be forgiven through Jesus Christ and not have to face our second death which is eternal seperation from god.

Taking the Lords name in vane is grater than telling someone that all is okay to calm them down, when things aren’t okay.
How ever a lye is a lye, a sin is a sin. If you stumble, slip and fall; God is there to catch you; If you a truly confessant of your sin deep in your hart, God will forgive you. What is the guilt level in your hart?

I believe the more you know about the Bible the more accountable you are, so if you don't know you shouldn't do something, God would not count that as a sin for you.

No I think in the bible it does say something along the lines that ignorance in not an excuse. I think he still will hold it as a sin even if you didn't know it was one.
I don't know.. I don't have the bible memorized or anything, but I just remember hearing something like that I think anyways.

Rich.. you don't really wanna know the answer to that question do you? lol
My moral conscience tells me that its okay to do certain things and yet not others. I have no problem sleeping at night when i think about how I live my life; even though it is NOT as free of sin as others. I also don't think that all sins are equal. My views of God are not as fire and brimstonish as some, and thats ok. We each have our own walk with God, and it is up to us how we have that walk. As I have said before, on judgement day, I am the only one accountable for my life and sins. so far, I don't think that I will be burning in hell.

lady that is cool
no scolding on your thinking.
I sense there is an under thought to your question.
Or the question you’d not brought up. ???
As I grow closer to The Lord, My out look on things change. It may be that I am just growing old. Do I sin? You bet; Do I lose sleep? No. In my heathen days, I’d not thought twice of trying to get into your pants, so to speak. Today I know how to respect, and push that sin aside. You are a very attractive woman, I am still a man, with conches of the flesh; The thought is still there, but now I can control it. The point is some may not see that as a sin because I can control not acting on my thoughts. It is still a moral issue in me that is the sin, (small sin) but still a sin. I ask god to forgive me and give me strength to overcome it as so I can walk closer to Him. The point to that is; All sin large or small, we need to work on. I hope my rambling made som impact for you.

sin is sin. when asked of Christ which was the greatest sin, he responded that when you broke one of his commandments, you've broken them all. the scriptures tell us that it is our job to read, study and pray.

I believe all sin has a degree of punishment, some more than others.

To sin aganist God, The Holy Ghost, murder (in cold blood) are unforgiveable sins. There is no room in Heaven for such as there is no way to make restitution for such. In order to be be forgiven, feel contrite in our hearts, make restitution and not do the sin again. The Lord is bound by certain laws in Heaven when you have satisfy the laws of justice, He remembers the sin no more, when you do not follow the steps, the Lord is not bound.

Are some sins greater in sin than others, of cause, stealing would not be on the same degree of severity as murder, or abusing your wife and children. But all must satisfy the law of justice before forgiveness can be meet.

but that is not all, to be forgiven we must be willing to forgive and that's a harder pill for humans to swallow. All sins are forgiveble, the gift of forgiveness doesn't come free, we are commanded to forgive others no matter the severity of their sin. We are not responsible for the sins of others aganist us. Therefore, asking the Lord to forgive the sinner shows love one to another.

This is funny because I just brought this question up recently in my workplace. I would disagree with you though. I believe it states in the new testament that all sins are equal. If God had a rating system for sins that would mean you might be able to get to heaven by committing the least amount of sins. But as most born-again Christians believe the only way to heaven is thru Jesus Christ. Therefore all our sins are forgiven upon accepting Christ and asking for forgiveness. One also could infer from this that you cannot earn your way (as long as you except Christ as your savior) into hell because all of our sins are covered by the blood of Jesus. Of course this does not mean that there will not be consequences when we come before our maker.

I wasn't going to comment here just visit. I am drawn to make a statement though.
I absolutely agree with porthuen7.
God tells us "You do not know me, your ways are not my ways." What we do know is that God is so far above us that we cannot ever equal him. We are saved by Grace. In other words, nothing we do (except believe in Christ as the son of God), will get us into heaven. We can be good all we want it will not be enough. Jesus is the only one who can make our sins invisible to God. Once you accept Jesus as your personal savior God will not judge you. Jesus has already paid the price of our sins and we are clean.
