I do it on my computer and have an online advertisement. I pick up business anywhere I can and have traveled all over Alabama working. I make more working 2-3 days a week than I could working for a contractor. Big risk is that if I don't work I don't get paid and I have ALL the risk of the job plus have to worry about my own health insurance. I threw away my pickup truck and bought an old van... I'll never own another pick up truck. My van is a rolling manufacturing plant. I have tools to do about anything...and a 40 ft semi-trailer to store them in. Works out great when business is good but terrible when I can't find work... my motto is "I don't work cheap and I don't do cheap work"....no use working if I can't make money at it. I've worked for some state departments on office buildings, a regional manager for a property management company (apartments) and a few manufacturing plants as well as hundreds of residential jobs... usual job for me is a day or two...some last a few weeks. Anything from a leaking pipe to like what I'm on now converting a garage into a bedroom. I almost always work alone. You have to be careful that you stay legal... lbothere Knoxville, TN age: 58	At night... I clean offices... been doing that for YEARS and YEARS. During the day... I paint houses (inside or outside), do custom painting (suede, etc), do murals for select people, PLUS I am a sheet rock finisher! I do tile work, pressure washing, deck refinishing, etc. I've done quite a bit of vinyl siding.. but as the CUTTER! I also am the occasional "cut man (woman!) for a carpenter. I don't do plumbing unless its absolutely necessary!!! I own my own power tools, etc.......and know how to use them!
