No, I have been to Thailand, but it was exactly for one week. I would love to go again I found it to be very beautiful as well as friendly. I can honestly say it is the only place on earth I have ever been sitting in rush hour traffic and have an elephant pass me!

Spent almost a month in Thailand. Met some interesting people, but had more fun watching the tourist! Some people don't travel well.

I was born in South Korea and lived there off and on for about 6 years, planning to go back to teach English once I finish my degree here in the States. If you like seafood, crowded beaches, and can be slightly independent as a foreigner, you will be just fine. The people there at first will be apprehensive to warm up to you because of their fear of being ridiculed for their poor English. Once you break through that initial barrier, you will find them to be some of the most generous and warm people you will ever meet. I have lived in 4 countries and cannot wait to go back to S. Korea for a few years to see some family and hang out at the Gwagalchi in Busan. Anyways, good luck with it, bro!

I have been to both (more than once) usually less than a week. I Enjoyed touring around Thailand more than Korea, and would love to go back. However, I will take Singapore over both of them.

I spent time in both places. I was in Korea for a year while I was in the Army. I did get alot of chances to visit alot of Korea while I was there. Another Army buddy and I toured alot in the immediate area. It has marvelous history, friendly people, affordable places to stay at and the food was fantastic. The local populace are very intuned to their military affairs and see US soldiers as a positive aspect. They are very friendly with the US because of our presence there since 1951. Staying there, drinking there, eating there and visiting there was reasonable price-wise. Shopping for trinkets or other stuff is a bit more expensive. I had wanted to pick up some state of the art electronics while I was there but did it in Japan instead. Since it is an industrialized nation with little to no air quality restriction laws, the air out there will get to you if you have any respiratory problems. Unlike many other nations that you may travel in, South Korea still has an active interest in a possible invasion from their northern neighbors and are very dilligent too it's National Security. If one visits there, I would recommend going to a smaller town or village and visiting the local Buddist Temples. They are both tranquil and majestic. Meet the folks there. They are very friendly.

(Note of Trivia. The Korean War is still ongoing although inactive by 1951 standards. By the end of the Korean War, we only managed to negotiate a mutual cease-fire. It is only through a strong military presence with both US and Republic of Korea soldiers (ROK Soldiers)that we've managed to keep the brittle peace there.)

I was in Thailand a few years ago when I was contracting for a security company. It has all of the same qualities such as Korea and everyone is openly friendly too you. But...this is a big but. I found that folks there are not as sincere. Everyone is out to make a buck and you'll sense it after a short time. It is alot cheaper but be very open minded about what is available. Both cultures have their own cultures and food items that the locals eat but Thailand was far more exotic. In certain areas it was also very dirty. On the flip side, the country life there was too tranquil. There is nothing really to do except to enjoy the natural beauty there which are staged tourist traps. Like going to the Bahamas and everyone wants to braid your hair for a price. Although exciting...I get enough of that in my professional life. I go to countries with the thought of actually relaxing and taking the edge off.

Thailand is known for their world famous, thriving, ever popular Sex Industry. It is also a place that Sexual Offenders visit all the time so they can bang young girls. In Thailand one can almost buy a human being out there. With no restrictions out there, there is the highest rate of STD's and AIDS in the world next to the continent of Africa. Had we gone into the deeper abyss of this underworld, I'm quite positive one could purchase a human being and other decrepid criminal activities. Anyway...a buddy and I were walking about the red light district bar hopping and we were a bit buzzed and decided to call it a night. On the way back to our hotel, he was propositioned by a prostitute with broken English (it happens there all the time). He refused due to the fact that we are security professionals and are very familiar with these places from our travels and former military experience and plus this supposedly female prostitute was actually a cross-dresser/transvestite. This "girl" needed his upper lip shaved more than I did and the lip gloss just didn't do it for any of us. This fellow took the refusal badly and then quickly informed the rest of his gang nearby. My buddy and I were literally chased around by a gang of transvestite muggers. We were forced to defend ourselves a short distance later and they retreated once we demonstrated that we were not the average American tourist targets. The police were notified by someone witnessing the event and although we were subsequently released, it took the local law quite awhile to get a witness to come forward. So, be advised. Thailand has a large criminal transvestite community in the darker sides of the cities. I know, it's funny now but it wasn't back then. It's not a great place to bring the kids if you know what I mean. It's like a big NC-17 reality world out there.

It all boils down to what you want to do and how big of a budget you can afford. If it were between the two, I felt that South Korea conformed to my comfort zones a bit better but Thailand had the spice of life and you can do it a bit cheaper too. But in retrospect, what's Life without a little spice now and then? Just remember to travel at least in pairs and keep aware of your surroundings no matter where.

Sustaining the means to Live is as bad as Death itself. Live with a Purpose. Live Large and savor the moments that take your breath away.

In my most humble opinion, if you'd like to see one of the most beautiful cities in the Asian hemisphere, go to Singapore, plus Hong Kong is way too expensive for my personal wallet. But bring alot of money or your Gold Card Amex/Visa too these places. A three star hotel room can run you $350 USD easy.
