Good to see you back Utah. I had a hell of a mess with a "rootkit" virus of some kind that screwed up my machine a couple weeks ago. Everyone needs to look out for strange .pdf files too. Thay have been carrying viruses quite a bit lately.

I ended up going to windowsbbs.com and the folks there finally helped me eradicate the damn troublemaker. They have some super people there that work hared to help.

Thanks for the info greyhnd. I have written it down for future reference. I have Norton Security, does that prevent that kind of thing or can I still get the viruses?

Joni - As long as your virus software is up to date with the most current definitions it should be okay. It also helps to run an anti-malware program a couple times a month. I use several....Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, A-squared free edition. and AdAware free. All of those programs are free for the home user. You can also run an online virus scan through the Trend Micro website. It's safe and no spyware or malware is installed.

I have all of that. I do do spybot regularly. MyWeb Products always seems to come up as a problem and I have taken off all of the smiley programs and curser mania but because I have google search, it still keeps coming up. I did not know that the malware program was something I needed to do regularly, so thank you for that. Do you have any preferences for a browser? I have been using firefox but have responding problems sometimes. I am wondering if this is the program or a virus.

You know......this guy who fixed my computer removed my AVG and replaced it with Avast. The difference between those two in my opinion and experience is that AVG is scheduled to scan whenever and however often you want where AVAST scans continously while you're online. I LOVE it! Haven't seen any pop ups and problematic messages as I did once with AVG.

I also, with my technician's advice, clean my files everytime I get off the computer because majority of the viruses stick around in temporary internet file waiting for you to clean on weekly basis.

I'm happy with the result...........as I am sure Grey is with his. Maybe it has a lot to do with Operating system? Mine's Vista Window 1000. *very complicated software, jmo*>

Someone recommended ccleaner for me and it works well. I do try to do a cleaner once a day and it has helped. I am not sure what version my windows program is. It is the one that came with the computer. I was having a lot of trouble with it and someone suggested firefox so that is what I have been using. It works better, but not real great. I have a friend who had also tried Google Chrome but likes firefox better. How do I know which version of windows I have? I have windows vista. Is your version free, or is that something you have to buy?

Go to your *computer* and click open.......it should bring up your operating system name, how much gb and gh #'s, etc.........print that out and, I would suggest that you walk in or call any reputable computer repair shop and tell them if they can recommend which antivirus software to use. Some would tell you to download the softwares and that alone makes me nervous because there are too many *wannabees*........and, if you need help with it.......maybe they can do the job for you by removing the old and adding the new. Be careful if they want you to buy their products which is very common these days. Be careful with *remote* repair company because so many of them have just started their website in order to get your debit/credit card numbers via computer connection.

I just google repair shops in my area and checked out their bbb.com for any complaints/rating scores before I chose *Click Computers*.

I wish you the best to solve this..........

Bowing to hootah the chatting queen!! Congrats girl!!

I have Norton Security software that was free from Comcast. They used to have me use another one but I can't remember what it was. Would it be okay to check with Staples? That is where I got my computer from and they were going to have me get Norton when I got it. Sorry, I don't know much about this stuff and I don't have a car so it would be hard for me to get anywhere else. I also have an extended warranty there as well.

I think since you got your computer from Staple would be a good place to ask them since they do have a repair shop but be warned.......don't let them take your computer with this *hourly rate*.......ask for a flat fee rate contract. If it's too much........and if your computer's old.........look for a cheaper but newer computer with loaded softwares. Do you have warranty with them? If so.......take advantage. Or, take their estimated repair cost and compare with other computer repair shops and show it to Staples to match it? Just a thought.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. It had offered an upgrade but I would have to pay for it, so not possible for now.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will check with Staples and ask what would be involved.

Did do that in high school. I wore hot pants to a baseball game, not a very good idea, it was cold. They weren't orange though.

Cute one, Joni.

Okay, an update about this problem I had addressed to my Mayor's office. Well, he acted on it VERY quickly and got five officials to get the ball rolling *yeah, it took five men to do it , lol*.........so this last Monday.....the property owner came and started weed whacking the overgown weeds..........and came back yesterday with his machinery to tear down his storage units and flatten/level the ground. Removed front yard's weeds and continued on today. They are coming back tomorrow to finish the backyard..........and, I'm proud to say that it's looking VERY nice even though the building is condemned but it's moderate looking rather than a drug house that gone wrong.

Oh, yeah, tons of little pesky pests came running away from their property........what a battle to keep them at bay! Wish I had chicken or seagulls eating them up for dinner!

So, there you go!

Ramona, what cutsy name can we come up with them? (my ants are Arnold, my flies are Howard, my neighbor's spider is hairy). What do they look like? That may help.

How about "Speedy" since they are running out of there like crazy? I think it sounds kind of cute.
