Man, I know about that one, they tear down the hallway and slide into the kitchen...But when I've had enough I let them know, and they actually stop.

Dealing with that right now but with my 44 year old sis, (not knowing I am there or not, not the big A) I so plan on making her recognize me again that it's not funny. Hang in there, give them all the support you can.

Johnny Builder,

My father passed from Alzhiemer's...... the years before were slow years..leading into the last stages... I suffered with him, through it all... seeing him not knowing me at times...however, strange that he always knew my phone number... I kept it pinned to his lamp shade beside his recliner... and watching a man that was a medical surgeon and doctor...dwindle down.. hurt like no other....

It's never easy ..... and then sometimes I look back at some of the early instances and reflect and chuckle....not realizing what roads and bridges were ahead of us as a family.

You must gather your strength... I cannot cushion the path which lies ahead for you.
I can remember you in my prayers with a heart felt tear and encouraging support in the years ahead for you.

I know that today, I have no regrets,I traveled the miles to the end with Dad... as a caregiver that didn't collapse, but held strong. often crying till i fell asleep..

But know that there is a Mighty one that will help carry the load which you will bare.

May the Lord Bless ya, giving you strength, holding you up when your knees are too weak

My mum passed allmost 15yrs ago, after a four year battle with cancer...

As we were really the only family that we had in the States, it was upto me to care for her..

For those four years, I put all of my own needs aside to care for her.....
It was very difficult....On many levels.

I was emotionally dead to all but her needs...

Was working 52+ hrs a week and caring for her.....Ran on no more than 4 hrs sleep.

Yes, I made mistakes and refused help when it was offered....But only out of respect for my mum's wishes.

I kept her home till her last two weeks....

I remember her last words to me.......She was on morphine.....She called me a b*tch!

I know that it was just the morphine and I instantly forgave her......

I thank God everyday that I forgave her....She passed away the next morning.

Thank you Miss T and Miss H.
Serious chit... those both brought a tear to my eye. I FELT both of you.
The love you had for your folks. My parents are my friends as well. Always been cool.
I'm a "momma's boy". Mom and I are tight. Hard to watch some of the "silly" stuff.
I do appreciate your love and pain. You gave me a glimpse of what's ahead. Thank you.
God is in their house and heart no doubt!!!

Again thank you both. Very cool.

Johnny, I was a mommas boy too. We were so close, she was my absolute best friend. I could talk to her about anything & vice versa. Dad & I never had a good relationship until the end. Growing up, I had a good father but I never had a Dad. Then he got sick, and lived his final days in a nursing home. I had always yearned to here him tell me he loved me and was proud of me. One of the last things he said to me was "I know I never told you, but I love you and I'm very proud of the man you became. Makes me cry just remembering it.

After reading the posts above... makes me feel silly for what I wanted to vent about. I am trying to sell my house and 2 weeks ago I found a crack in my hallway ceiling.... I have the foundation guy coming today at 11:00 to assess the situation and let me know what the problem and solution is!! I don't have much in savings so I am a little scared right now.

what chaps my arse is the foreigners that just pop up on your yahoo messenger with american names that send text that read like it comes from a self help book. not only that, but they ask the same question over repeatedly thinking that they will get some different kind of response. this is when my smile turns upside down and those lines between my eyes start developing into the "grand canyon"!
