I personally think that everything from the WWE UFC and all of this grappling shown on Spike TV is beyond BARBARIC and should be made illegal. It is no different than Dog, C*ck, Horse etc. fights. We have all of these environmental groups, civil rights, abortion, but nobody gives a hoot about grown men and women beating the pulp out of each other. Anybody else against it ??????????????????????

I don't think you really know what you're talking about personally.

And why are you posting here anyway? This is for people who *like* MMA, not hate it.

Are you kidding me? MMA is a sport with a variety of backgrounds such as wrestling, boxing, karate, jiu-jitsu, muy thai, kick-boxing, judo and more not to mention the physical endurance and cardio that is needed to perform. It is definitely a sport with technical martial arts skills required. Are you saying that we should not let people study martial arts or we should ban kids from taking karate classes with sparring? It is the same thing and the same sport but taken to a whole new level by professionals. Get a clue before you verbally bash something you know nothing about.

We are talking about sanctioned, professional fighters how dare you compare wwf wrestling to any type of ring or cage fight. Now I dont agree with people just watching on tv and thinking there learning how to fight then having backyard brawls. UFC, Pride Boxing, all these fighting sports have gone through legal struggles. Your right fighting is extremely dangerous but your not seeing many people dying from it are you! If you dont like the fighting arts why dont you either not watch it or just shut your mouth.

you have a remote, right? use it.
I thoroughly enjoy seeing skillsets and bodytypes set against each other in regulated, refereed competition... I have nothing but respect for those who do this and frankly, these guys - like Randy at nearly 44 yrs old, 2 yrs older than me and holding the heavyweight belt right now.. Matt Serra who at my height, beat GSP.. I gain tremendous inspiration from watching mixed martial arts... I would probably give it a try if the opportunity came up..

I don't think you really know what you're talking about personally. Dustin

So is poleshift talking 'out of his hat'? so to speak? Or is there a valid but maybe misplaced sentiment here?

I train, no intention of fighting for sport...just cruised through and caught this. Maybe this should be in the politics section? But I noticed how aggressive all of the responses seemed??? Why go at an answer that way?

I wonder if anyone does think that money interests are ruining the MMA world...?

guthans: you are correct, These secrets are being ruined by $, to some extent but the sport of fighting has gone through tremendous legal battles . But those who do not like it or whatever dont need to put their opinion in here, like hearing some people state their opinions is going to change my own opinion. Thank you for your opinion also.

I hardly think we are feeding cristians to the lions , infact its good for grown men to let loose and see who the best man is , my only complaint is it has got a bit soft lately not enough blood and carnage for me

Not sure if that was the thought... Ever see 'Running Man' (Arnold)? Same concept. Entertaining the masses with nonsense to keep them from paying attention to anything important...

My opinion on this statement is that I don't believe its ruining MMA at all if
anything it makes it better. If both fighters know that money is at stake and
also there credibility they will come out fighting with more intensity making it a better
match. As far as calling it barbaric though I think that was just over the top.

I don't have a problem paying attention to what's important...I don't have to focus on it 24-7 to be aware of things that are important.
Pitting your mind and body against another person, to test your limits, to grow and excel are not barbaic traits. They're part of what being alive is about. Pushing yourself and enjoying the fact that you can...feeling the rush of being alive is great.
Have'nt you ever hopped in your car or motorcycle and stomped it to the floor??? It's like your body is your machine...I'm going to open this fcuker up and see what it will do. Get it?

Does anyone else know if this is fact..

every year a boxer dies from the ring....I heard this a while back just never found anything to back it up with as far as documented...either way the boxing industry has had more than its share of people killed in the sport...

MMA however has had one documented death SINCE 1993, however it was NOT a sanctioned fight so it is NOT related to MMA as a professional fight...AND it happened in Europe.

You are entitled to your opinion, however you would look less than a MORON if you KNEW more about the SPORT your trying to give your opinion on!

AND your trying to tie WWE, a sport ENTERTAINMENT event, THAT IS NOT REAL, and compare it to a full contact sport! There again more deaths/injuries have been made in this ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY again than the WHOLE time MMA has been around!

Again, making your self an easy target...know your subject before you throw YOURSELF to the lions!

MMA and the way it is being handled is one of the safest sports, as long as it is sanctioned, in the contact industry.

KNOW YOUR SUBJECT IF YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN THE CAN!!!!

Oh yeah and do you know the sport that has the MOST deaths reported each year?? Thats correct...FISHING!!!
