I've never gotten (or been able to search and find) a good, DEFINITIVE answer to this: what is the time structure of the opening theme for the movie The Terminator? It seems quite complex and just doesn't seem to fit any of the "normal" odd signatures (5/4, 7/8, etc.). And please just don't "guess" what you "think" it is - please give a link or reference for a definitive answer.

I'm counting 7/8 rather consistently, and the research I've found leads me to solidify that its 7/8.

It just sounds different because they offset the upbeats, and instead of counting the upbeats, try to count the 14th downbeats. (I think it's 14ths?)

good song, I love old soundtracks to old sci-fi movies. the old synthesized tracks were grand.

I've studied and played odd signatures going back many years and it just doesn't fit any including 7/8. Probably Brad Fiedel would have the only definitive answer. If anyone knows a GOOD musician's (or drummer's) site to ask this on, let me know.

I can't play odd time for shizz but I usually outlast the guitar players.
They all quit.

I think it was recorded and then the speed was slightly altered to fit the time frame. I detect it on radio when the play list is jammed in with too many 30 second ads that have to be honored. Adjusted speeds may not be detectable in all cases

It is an electronic composition using synthecized scoring---accounts for the odd hard to follow beat. The composer made his reputation developing this form of production--he is quite well known for this type of sound that you can hear for a lot of popular media use. To sit and play it--as regular music----is probably impossible.

But it has a definite structure time-wise as it repeats over and over with exactly the same note (or beat) sequence and timing.

I listened and counted--its not easy to get. Thats why I think its not really performed but electronically done and brought together. I definitely know that it won't be done by any drum and bugle corps groups. Not without a lot of concentration.

If it is "electronically done" as you state (and of course it was/is), then it has a definite digital structure which will include the EXACT sequence and timing of each beat or note. Something any experienced percussionist (or musician) is familiar with!
