blondbeachgirl Kissimmee, FL age: 22	My question was probably already a topic, but I'm curious about what people here think about this. In real life, people get to see what they look like first before they go out and get to know each other. From what I hear about online dating though, sometimes people chat and get to know a person before they see that person's picture. Even if they get to see it before they go out, its not the same as meeting that person face to face first. Do some of you request a picture from a person before you start chatting with them to get to know them, or are you ok with getting to know them without knowing what they look like? And then what if, after getting to know them and really liking their personality, you finally get to see their picture and---you realize as your looking at it that you're not attracted to their facial features or their body even though you really like their personality? Or, they show you their picture first, and you make this same realization before you start chatting with them---should you be honest with them and say you don't want this to go any further because you don't feel attracted to them? Or should you give them a chance and go on a date with them even though you don't think they're attractive, thinking maybe their personality will make it not matter to you about how they look? This is all sort of new to me. Even though I dated guys online that I already knew or that my friends set me up with, I never dated a guy online that I didn't know! In some ways its easier than real life dating but in other ways, its a little complicated and strange. We each have a basic but unique idea about the kind of person we're attracted to. If a person falls out of our range of what we think is attractive or sexy, it makes it harder to want to date that person, no matter how cool or sweet their personality is. But for other people, looks don't matter to them at all and its only their personality that really matters to them. Even though I know its not shallow of me to want to be attracted to a person that wants to date me, some people and society make me feel that way sometimes! I guess I just want to read what other peoples opinions are about this---to see what the consensus is about dating a person that has a cool personality but isn't attractive to the person who's going with them on the date. I finally stuck one up but since I work from my iPhone, the damn things are sideways. I've had guys not date me because of my hearing impairment because the hearing aids 'look' bad. I've also noticed more men will come down on women for being fatties but women hardly ever comment on a man's stature. A guy can be somewhat overweight and still be appealing in this society, but a girl can't. I also have a friend who is a little person. Guys won't date her unless they have a strange fetish about it. I have dated extremely overweight men who I found to be attractive for their intelligence and wit. I've dated a man in a wheelchair who was a double amputee. I feel everybody deserves a fair shot because ultimately I want them to give me a fair shot too.

The biggest barrier between me and a relationship with one of these women is me, my employemnt, and my geography. I know that these are temporary obstacles and that while the other things take care of themselves, I will eventually find a woman who shares the same long-term vision I have for retirement, which would likely include a residence here in CA and one closer to her family, as needed. One tip for the very sought after women: Place a phrase in your profile to be included in your e-mail subjects, example "If you e-mail me put HassenPfeffer in the Subject or I will delete you e-mail without reading it". The best chance you have of knowing in the short term is if you're lucky enough that what's on the inside shines through. Otherwise it could take some investment in time to find out.
